Day 4: Eggnog 🥚
Eggnog came into our care after being listed on Facebook Marketplace for $200. Something didn’t feel right, so I reached out, negotiated his price down to $80, and picked him up the same day.
I initially thought he was an unspayed girl who would be destined to horrors if not grabbed by a rescue, but when I got there I learned he was actually a little boy! I was sold on the idea that he was healthy roof but turns out he was covered in fleas, dealing with a severe ear infection, and showing clear neurological issues.
His symptoms didn’t look like typical CH, so after seeing a regular vet I scheduled a neurology consult.
The neuro noted vestibular signs and possible toxoplasmosis, and he began treatment with 1 mL of clindamycin twice daily for 5 weeks, along with FortiFlora for tummy support. He was only 8 weeks old when he got to us. A TINY BABY
About 3 weeks into treatment, I added omeprazole after noticing frequent gulping. He also completed a full feline infection panel to rule out other causes.
After finishing treatment, and since his infection panel came back negative for toxoplasmosis, the neurologist determined that his neurological condition is likely permanent after his follow up visit.
He is now off medications, and we were advised to simply monitor him and only be concerned if his symptoms worsen.
Eggnog is still pretty unstable neurologically but is overall much healthier than when he first came into rescue. Moving forward, he will need lifelong supportive care. Nothing scary, just no high surfaces, no stairs, no cat trees, and gentle cat friends. He is deserving of a safe and understanding home so now it’s our goal to find one.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated!
