From Steve Hall, regarding the deep well injection meeting Thursday night.

Waste Management Permit Application for Deep Well Injection- Post #3
Hello Neighbors - hope everyone has had a good week so far. We had a good meeting tonight with our Vice Mayor Josh Rydell. He talked about multiple city issues but the big elephant in the room was the well permit application. About an hour into the meeting Broward County Commissioner Mark Bogen showed up. He told us that he is working to get Waste Management to pull their permit. He wants a 10 year agreement to continue the current arrangement where the garbage juice is sent to a county facility, treated and then disposed in a county well that is controlled. He is having a meeting on Monday morning with the suits from Waste Management to discuss it. He thinks there is a better than average chance of cutting a deal for this.

I can tell you that the City of Coconut Creek is behind us, at least two of the County Commissioners are with us and I can't logically see any other government official not agreeing to continue the existing arrangement.

In order to facilitate Waste Managements desire to cut a deal we would like to hold a sidewalk meeting of our own Sunday and Monday. Sunday's would be at the Waste Management offices on Powerline. Time to be determined. Monday's would be at the county offices down town between 8am and 10am. We are going to try and organize a bus to transport those that can't drive down there. We also are going to contact print and tv media in the hopes they show up. The more bad press for Waste Management the better to force them into a deal.

If you able to attend either protest please either message me or contact me through my email - [email protected]. We have someone to make signs and we want to know how many we will need. Additionally - I understand people have lives so please don't tell us you are showing if you are not. If the press shows looking for 100 people and only 5 show up we will lose any future opportunities to have the press on our sside.
I'm really happy with all the people that showed up tonight. Thanks for coming tonight. This is the biggest issue we have right now and we need to make sure that it's put to bed without granting any third party waste dumping next to our city.

Regards,
Steve

FYI

Waste Management Inc's plan to shoot โ€œgarbage juiceโ€ thousands of feet underground into the Florida Aquifer has outraged environmentalists. They fear the run-off from the company's Monarch Hill Landfill near Coconut Creek in unincorporated Broward County will pollute drinking water with toxins. โ€œI d...
