Space Coast Water Sweep is a local angler-driven effort focused on removing abandoned crab traps and protecting the Indian River Lagoon — because the people who fish these waters should protect them. Space Coast Water Sweep is a volunteer-driven initiative dedicated to protecting and restoring the waters of Brevard County by locating and removing abandoned crab traps and marine debris from the Ind

ian River Lagoon. Through coordinated recovery efforts and a growing network of anglers and community volunteers, we work to eliminate “ghost gear,” safeguard marine life, and preserve the health of our coastal waterways for future generations.

What started as reporting derelict crab traps has now grown into something much bigger.

The Space Coast Water Sweep / Water Report Network app is becoming a community-powered environmental reporting network designed to help waterways ANYWHERE — not just Florida.

This app gives everyday people a way to help protect the water simply by reporting what they see.

You can now report:
🌊 Marine debris & trash
🪤 Derelict crab traps & fishing gear
🌱 Seagrass observations
💧 Water quality concerns
🐟 Fish kills & wildlife issues
⚠️ Environmental incidents
🪸 Habitat observations
🛥 Navigation hazards
🦀 Bycatch & marine life impacts
📍 And much more

You don’t need boats, equipment, or permits to help.
You don’t need to touch anything.
If you SEE something — report it.

The goal is to collect as much real-world information as possible and get that information into the hands of organizations, nonprofits, cleanup groups, researchers, and agencies that can actually use it to make a difference.

This is about creating one large community-driven network where people everywhere can help protect local waterways, lagoons, rivers, estuaries, beaches, and oceans.

With everyone getting out on the water to enjoy the nice weather, you can help make a real difference for Florida’s waterways and beyond.
Space Coast Water Sweep started here on the Space Coast because of the growing need to remove abandoned crab traps and other marine debris. These traps can become silent killers, harming far more than just crabs. They can trap fish, turtles, birds, and other wildlife while adding pollution to our waters.
There are still thousands of these traps out there, and you can help.
Download the Space Coast Water Sweep app and report what you see. You don’t need to touch anything, remove anything, or have special equipment. Just spot it, take a photo, and report it through the app.
Please download the app today and register if you can. Even if you don’t register, having the app ready means you can help the next time you’re out on the water.
Together, we can reduce bycatch, remove pollution, and help protect our waterways.

💥 What’s really hiding under the surface?

Most people never see what’s down there… but we do.

Lost (derelict) crab traps sitting in the grass, buried in the mud, or tangled in mangroves — still trapping and killing marine life every day.

I’ve been looking into Garmin LiveScope 👀

👉 Has anyone here actually seen crab traps on it?

Seems like it could be a game-changer for:
• Finding hidden traps faster
• Recovering more gear
• Saving more wildlife

If you:
• Have used LiveScope and seen anything like this

• Have pics/screenshots
• Or have a unit we could test during a cleanup

I’d love to hear from you.

We already reached out to Garmin, but while we wait, figured I’d ask the community.

Every trap we find is one less killing marine life.

We’re getting real momentum removing lost (derelict) crab traps from our waters… and people are starting to notice.

But here’s the truth —
There are thousands more traps still out there, continuing to trap and kill marine life every single day.

At Space Coast Water Sweep, we’re out there doing the work — locating, verifying, and removing traps the right way with full FWC compliance.

Now we’re ready to do even more…
➡️ More traps removed
➡️ More wildlife saved
➡️ More coverage across Florida

But we can’t scale this without support.

💙 We’re looking for community and business sponsors who want to be part of the solution.

If you’ve been following what we’re doing and want to help make a real impact — this is your chance.

👉 Click here to learn more and become a sponsor:

Every dollar goes directly toward:
• Trap removal operations
• Fuel & equipment
• Expanding recovery efforts
• Protecting marine life from unnecessary suffering

This isn’t just cleanup…
This is saving wildlife and protecting our waters for the future.
