Details of the Armed Forces Shoot Out
Welcome to our website, feel free to look around. Our chapter has been here in Brevard County for 34 years and we have been holding the shootout for 12 years.
Although the shootout location is the American Police Hall of Fame we have never has an incident during our event. There are no on-duty officers present, no colors or patch hassles, and, being a military veteran motorcycle club, we treat everyone with respect and the reciprocation includes our guests for the day.
The shootout is well organized, and operated by the shooting range staff. We use half (12) of the shooting lanes in the range. The event is controlled by the Range master, who communicates to the shooters via a PA system. There is also at least one range volunteer standing behind the shooters to assist with jams, mis-fires, and jittery nerves.
Twelve shooters participate in each shooting flight. The number of flights is determined by the total number of shooters divided by 12. You may shoot multiple flights, but must pay $10 for each flight. The shootout is a timed event with limitations on the distance, target area, and number of shots in each round of the flight of the shootout. Targets are provided.
There are 5 different shoots at 20, 25, 30, 40, and 50 feet. For each shoot the the shooter is allowed 6 shots only. Standard silhouette targets are used, and the target area at the 20 and 25 feet distance is the silhouette head. At all other distances the shooter can use the entire silhouette Maximum score is 100, range or AFMC personnel score each shooter based on the placement and number of holes in the target. Less holes means you missed the target, the staff is very experienced.
Finally, each shoot is timed based on distance, with 10 to 20 seconds allowed to fire 6 shots. Targets automatically turn to face you to begin the shoot time and rotate 90 degrees away at the end of the shoot time. All timing, distance settings, and target rotations are remotely controlled by the range master. Should you have a jam or mis-fire and unable to complete the 6-round maximum, the rangemaster will rotate only your target for the remaining alibi shots.
Be safe.
Good luck.
