Cochranton Lions Club & Community Park

Cochranton Lions Club & Community Park The Cochranton Lions Community Park is owned and operated by the Cochranton Borough as of August 2019.

Ownership of the Cochranton Lion Community Park has transferred to the Cochranton Borough. To make pavilion reservations or to ask questions, contact the Borough manager, Susan Armburger, at 814-425-1486 or 814-425-3365.

Now in the green phase, the pavilions are available for use by reservation for groups of 250 or less. Because the Cochranton Lions Club is not able to sanitize equipment after each use, we advise that you use the playground equipment, shelters and restrooms at your own risk. Those who rent pavilions are responsible for ensuring their gusts maintain proper social distance, wear face masks where social distancing is not possible and thoroughly wash their hands regularly. If you use park facilities without rental, you do so at your own risk and should maintain proper social distancing, wear face masks where appropriate and thoroughly wash your hands regularly.

We are sorry to announce that the playground area of Lions Park is closed until further notice. Based on the guidelines provided by the Department of Health and the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the playground will remain closed probably until Crawford County enters the Green Phase. The reason is that there is just no way for the Lions Club to sanitize the playground equipment between each use--which is the only viable way to ensure that children will not get infected if someone with Covid19 uses the equipment before them.
However, the Park remains open for use of the open spaces and walking trails so long as social distancing is maintained. The pavilions may be used as long as the group using it is of 25 or less, social distancing and appropriate masking requirements are followed.

The Cochranton Lions Club wants to thank everyone who participated in any way with Lions Park this year. The season for renting pavilions is coming to a close (September 30, 2019). But the park remains open to the community, as weather permits, for your use. Pavilion rentals will become available again May 1, 2020. If anyone is interested in devoting time to preserving Lions Park for use by the community, contact Lions Secretary Dave Pickens at 814-720-9483 or any Lions Club member for information about becoming a Lion. In addition to supporting community recreational opportunities through maintenance of Lions Park, the Lions Club works in many ways to promote good eyesight within the Cochranton community.

Pavilion rentals will resume in the spring: meaning the restrooms and electricity will not be available . The park remains open during daylight hours. We encourage use of the facilities as long as weather permits.

Come get some really great fries at the Cochranton Fair this week. Then call 720-9483 to reserve a pavilion for a great celebration to end your summer (or early fall).

Crawford County is sponsoring a summer recreation program at the park this summer for children. It runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Supervised activities are provided for children of all ages. Visit Pavilion #1 at the park for more information. This is a program similar to the summer recreation programs of years ago, but sponsored by the county. They have had two such programs in Meadville for the past couple years and wanted to expand to Cochranton this year. It started this week and will run through mid August. Just another opportunity for children in Cochranton this summer at Lions Park.

Crawford County is sponsoring a summer recreation program that will take place at Lions Park this summer. They are looking for motivated high school students ("rising Juniors, Seniors or 2018 graduates" to serve as attendants at the park. If you or anyone you know who fits this category are looking for summer work, go to www.Crawfordcountyparks.com and click on "Jobs" to submit an application.

The Summer Parks Project is working to provide kids with more things to do in the summer. We all want our children to have a safe, clean, fun environment to play and grow in during the summer months. Our Parks are the perfect place to make that happen.

Picnic season is fast approaching. We've already made a number of reservations for graduation parties, reunions and family gatherings. To ensure the pavilion and date of your choice, contact Dave Pickens at 720-9483. Prices are unchanged for this season.Pavilion #1 is $80: pavilions 2,3 & 4 are $65. This includes electric, water, restrooms and use of the new playground equipment. And again, thanks to the Cochranton community, through the good works of C.A.R.E., for the upgrade to the playground. It's going to be another great recreation season.

The Cochranton Lions Club wants to publicly thank the Cochranton Area Redevelopment Effort for their astounding feat of successfully raising the funds, purchasing the equipment and organizing its installation for the new and safer playground at Lions Park. Marsha Rynd chaired the playground committee and propelled them to raising nearly $50,000, sought and obtained bids for the equipment, organized all the preparatory ground work and led the volunteer army that successfully erected the new equipment. A shout out to all the contractors who volunteered their expertise to ensure that the foundations for the new apparatuses were installed to specifications and safety standards. And we can't say enough about the community of volunteers who did all the hard work in getting the equipment put up and the surface material spread. While there is some follow up work to be done this year, we can be proud of the new playground at Lions Park and of the Cochranton community for making it possible.

Thanks to everyone for a great 2017 season! We had. Successful fair booth this year with the help of the Legion. Pavilion rentals are over for the season. The restrooms are now winterized. But the great new playground equipment is available . So go at it. We'll see you next year for a full summer of recreational activity and big picnics.

Anyone interested in helping out with the park or the many other activities we do to promote health and vision, we meet at the park building on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month all winter. Give Don DuPont (425-2284), our president a call, or talk to any member about coming to a meeting. We'd love to have you visit.

Thanks again,
The Cochranton Lions Club
