Important Information:
Register for the contest by Monday, November 18, 2024, houses will be accepted at the door.
Completed gingerbread houses must be delivered to the Cochranton Family Church, 114 East Adams Street, Cochranton, PA across from the Cochranton Fire Hall between 3pm – 7pm on Thursday, November 21, 2023.
Judging will take place between 9am – 11 on Friday, November 22, 2024 and the display will be open for public viewing at 12pm – 4pm. On Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 10am – 4pm.
All entries must be picked up on Saturday, November 23, 2024 between 4pm – 5pm. (No earlier) All houses left beyond that time will become property of the Cochranton Community Junior Fair Board. Competition Guidelines
ENTERING AND QUALIFYING TO ENTER
Only one (1) gingerbread house per entry form will be accepted. To be eligible for competition, a completed entry form must be received by Thursday, November 21, 2024. Gingerbread Houses will be accepted at the door, but it is not recommended.
Contest Rules for Gingerbread Houses
1. Houses will be judged on originality, construction, and difficulty.
2. The entry’s major components (such as sides, roof, etc.) must be constructed of gingerbread unless it is the graham cracker house creation. The rest of the display can be decorated with any edible material.
3. All visible components of the display must be 100% edible. For example, plastic wrapped candies must be unwrapped; any paper or plastic stems of lollipops should be removed or concealed; tin foil bases should be entirely covered with edible materials, etc. Battery operated lighting is permitted. Any internal structural support for large gingerbread houses does not have to be edible as long as it is not visible from any angle.
Size Limitations, Identification and Description
1. Please carefully note the display board rules: House entries must be mounted on a sturdy piece of plywood ( ½” to ¾”) 18” x 18.” The display board should act as an integral part of your design. Kit houses and graham cracker houses are to be on 12” x 12” plywood (as stated above).
2. Write your name and address on the underside of your base. Please, include, on a separate sheet that will be on your display area, the materials used in the gingerbread house construction process. The top of your sheet should have the name of your gingerbread house. Please DO NOT include your name in the name of the gingerbread house. Doing so will disqualify you from the competition.
Judging Process and Criteria
1. Entries will be judged in the following categories: Overall appearance, Originality & Creativity, Workmanship/Technique, Level of difficulty.
2. Family, Youth, and Adult divisions awards are 1st place $50 and a ribbon, 2nd place $30, and 3rd -place $20. The House Kit and Graham Cracker Divisions will have a 1st place award of $25 and a ribbon. The People’s Choice Ribbon will be awarded to the Gingerbread House that has the most patron votes. Money from People’s choice voting will go to the Home Show Building Fund. Judges have leeway to award prizes in parallel to the amount of houses being judged and points awarded.
