Student have been learning about genetics in Food Science. Did you know there are over 7,500 varieties of apples? Students applied their knowledge of heredity and genetics and explore new varieties of apples. Well of course in a Food Science class that means students also get to eat different varieties of apples and bake an apple dish!

New learning experience for students. Food Science make sourcream by fermenting cream and waiting overnight for the lactic acid bacteria to do its job. The next day, students learned how to make a biscuit by incorporating the sour cream into the recipe.

Madison, Kinsley, Mari Cate and Allie are sampling different cookies prepared this week in Food and Nutrition Class. Each group prepared a different cookie: Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, Snickerdoodle, Peanut Butter, and Cocoa Drop. What a fun Christmas Cookie Exchange!

Bleckley County FCCLA and Bleckley Hosa are selling luminaries this week in preparation for the Cancer Awareness game on Friday! The luminaries will light up the walkway leading into the stadium. Please comment on this post or stop by the high this week to purchase yours! They will be sold for $5 each. All proceeds will go to a local family who has been affected by cancer.

Bleckley Foods class went on a field trip today. We heard from the director of admission from OFTC, Rebecca Lang, culinary chef. She taught us about food careers and spices. And a visit to Chick fila. Mrs Lumley provided great insight on how to get a job.

1st period classes are always the BEST! No one knew that it really wasn’t Walker birthday. Oops, we celebrated just for the heck of it. Happy NOT birthday Walker. Class loved the cupcakes. Thanks Madison for bringing us such JOY!

Bleckley’s Food Science student are studying Food Inventors. This week’s scientists was George Washington Carver development of food items from peanuts. So,student make their own peanut butter and participated in a food challenge to determine which group created the best Pranut Butter Jelly sandwich PHOTO!
