Relay For Life of Bleckley County

Hi everyone,
This is Dave Whitaker. For the past several years, I've been honored to serve as the online chair and publicity person for Relay. Like many of you, I had a personal reason to be involved. In my case, my grandfather surviving two cancers, my grandmother his caregiver.

You may've noticed there's been no updates about Relay 2017. That's because there won't be a Relay For Life 2017. As a committee member, I received a copy of an email today saying Relay For Life in Bleckley County has been discontinued.

Why you ask? To quote the email "declining income" and "declining community engagement" In other words, they believe they need to allocate time and resources toward events that have bigger impact.

Yeah, it's upsetting. I hate it too. But if you have a passion for fighting cancer, if you want to sing, fundraise, there are other awesome events in the area. Pulaski County always seems to have something going on, their events are well attended. I'd be willing to bet they'd love some help from their neighbors here in Cochran.

And if you want to raise funds for ACS, you still can. The high school CTSO's had some great fundraisers last week promoting awareness of breast and prostate cancer.

Thank you to every person who's served on the committee over the years. Thank you to every person who's volunteered their time. Thank you to every person who's donated a dollar. Thank you for your support and help in the fight against cancer.

Sunday was National Cancer Survivors Day. Sorry for being late but we wanted to say thank you to survivors! Thank you for your courage, your strength. It is because of you we relay. And because of your victories, we will never stop fighting until a cure is found!

Thanks to everyone who brought tickets for Dr. Gibbs Office Relay for Life Fundraiser!!! They raised over $440.00 for the American Cancer Society! Mrs. Tammy Reid is our winner!!! :)

Hey Everyone! We just wanted to give a Big Bleckley thank you to everyone that came out tonight and helped us raise awareness, support and funds for the American Cancer Society! Thank you to our performers, participants, team members, team captains, friends, family, and most importantly our Survivors!!! You are the reason we Relay and give us the real meaning of Strength, Courage, and Hope!!! Happy Birthday to all of our Survivors and we wish you many, many more to come!

In less than 13 hours, it'll be time to relay! Are you ready? We know there's lots happening today. So if you're going to the baseball game or to the Bible Reading Marathon, come by afterwards. We'd love to see you at the start, but anytime you come by would be great!

Hey everyone, Bleckley's Relay for Life will definitely be happening tomorrow! Thanks for everyone who has been so helpful and understanding about the postponement! Our Survivor Ceremony will be at 5:30pm tomorrow (right before Relay) and our Luminaria ceremony will be at 9:00pm.

Everyone,
The forecast is calling for high's in the low 90's Friday. So for all our walkers, be prepared! Drink water, make sure you take turns, and since the sun will be out for the first couple of hours, remember to protect yourself *sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc.* Have fun at relay, be inspired by relay, be SAFE at relay.
