Pro Prospects' new Pennsylvania home...
MULTI-SPORT TRAINING COMPLEX COMING TO WAYNE COUNTY
Athletes in Northeast Pennsylvania will no longer need to travel for professional training or to play year-round. The Sports Factory of Northeast Pennsylvania, a state-of-the-art 30,000 square foot multi-sport training complex is scheduled to open this fall in White Mills.
This unique facility, part of the re-birth of the former Chroma Tube factory, will provide comprehensive training and treatment for athletes in a variety of sports, including specialized indoor and outdoor facilities designed for baseball, softball, soccer, football, lacrosse and field hockey.
This venture brings two of the areas sports skill development services under one roof:
Pro Prospects Training Center, one of the most respected baseball and softball skill development academies in the northeast, will move their Pennsylvania operation into the new complex. Founded in 1997 by former minor league hitting coach Steve Pinto, Pro Prospects has helped over 1,000 players reach the collegiate level and more than 100 of their players have gone on to play professionally. The staff of former professional and college players and coaches have a combined 175 years of coaching and training experience. Pro Prospects is also the Greater Hudson Valley (NY) hub for Prep Baseball Report-NY one of the top scouting services nationwide, providing area ballplayers education on the recruiting process and comprehensive national college exposure.
Pro Prospects will bring its cutting-edge strength and conditioning service, Athletic Symmetry, headed by former Kansas City Royals Strength Coach Stephen Gamma. Gamma, a certified CSCS, and his staff will provide assessments, training and corrective therapy. Coach Gamma and his staff will be available for private, small-group and team strength & conditioning for athletes of all sports.
Pro Prospects' new space will include four batting cages, arm-action pitching machines, two pitching mounds and long toss tunnels, a regulation indoor baseball & softball infield and a 1,600 square foot state-of-the-art strength and conditioning center. In addition to providing private, small-group and team training, their new facility will also be available for individual or group and team rentals.
The Sports Factory will also be home to T.A.S.S. Soccer of Northeastern Pennsylvania, a respected and fast-growing training and travel soccer program run by NSCAA- registered coach Gerry Linn. Linn is a former NCAA and Professional Head Coach who led Quinnipiac College to the NE-10 NCAA Playoffs for only the second time in school history, and coached professionally for Parkway Soccer Club of the CSL, leading them to 5 playoffs in 6 years and capturing one league title. T.A.S.S., founded in 1989 in Connecticut has sent many of its players to Division I and II programs including Notre Dame, Ohio State, Long Island University, Southern CT and Central CT. Since opening in Pennsylvania, T.A.S.S has worked with nearly 400 players.
In addition to travel soccer teams, T.A.S.S will offer private and group training and will host skills camps for players of all ages and skill levels and will use the complex’s 150’x120’ regulation soccer field for practice, training and camps. The main field can also be split into two 120’ x 65’ fields and will be available for team rentals for all sports.
Plans are also in place for an indoor soccer league starting late Fall 2015 and a flag football league in 2016.
The complex will also include:
-On-site physical therapy
-On-site athletic training
-A sporting goods store
-Conference/meeting rooms
-A party room with birthday party options for a variety of sports
-A café/full concession area with guest seating in full view of the main sports fields
-Development of 16 acres into outdoor baseball, softball and soccer fields
This effort to resurrect a factory once an important part of the region's economy is the vision of the building's owner Rudy Schemitz. Schemitz purchased the shuttered manufacturing plant, once home of the Wood Shovel & Tool Company, last year with plans to expand his business, New Wave Custom Woodworking Inc., to spur economic growth in the area and to provide recreation opportunities for the kids in the community.
“You go into any local diner and see two guys in a booth. What are they talking about? The good old days,” said Schemitz. “I want to bring this place back to life and make it something the community can be proud of again. That’s really important to me.”
