Caring On Higher Ground Update

I wanted to update everyone with the happenings of Caring on Higher Ground. We have already paid out 6 of the 6 scholarships for the fall semester and are waiting for the recipients to submit verification for the winter semester. Overall, we have a group of very grateful students.

We have 38 members that have paid their pledge to date and 7 who have pledged and still need to finish their payment. If you need to catch up it isn’t too late. Please contact Debbie, Keri or Allison.

On a personal note let me give you a cancer update. My body was responding quite well on the medicine until about October when there was some growth in my tumors, due to lowering the dose of medication I was on. It has been a roller coaster since then. My Doctor increased my dose and my last scan that came back after Thanksgiving showed my tumors shrinking again. Happy day! I had a son that got married the week before Christmas (also a Happy Day) but was very stressful to my body. My red blood count at my last appointment was low, which I think was a result of stress and not eating. I have another scan the end of January and I am praying and hoping for great results. I have a greater appreciation for my body and all that it is going through. I intend to keep on fighting this cancer!

We haven’t quite reached our goal last year of 80 members, but I am pleased with the support that we have. We have pledged to help 2 organizations within our schools that I would like to see us pay when all payments are in. Please make your payment if possible. There is so much we can do for our community.
Please just send me a quick email ([email protected]) or text (977-5234) if you are willing to pledge again this year. I need to let the High Schools know what our commitment level is.
I am so thankful for each of you and the commitment you have to the schools in our community. I look forward to hearing from you very soon.

Thanks,
Debbie Millar

Caring On Higher Ground, Inc. is a non-profit organization established to raise and distribute funds for education causes in the mountain area of Eastern Madera County.
The members of Caring On Higher Ground are women from the Mountain Communities of Coarsegold, Oakhurst, O’Neals, Bass Lake & North Fork.
Each woman is asked to donate a minimum of $100 a year.
Our goal is to have 100 women be a part of this great organization.

Together these women will meet and decide on how to award the funds, either to individual students graduating from the local High Schools or organizations within the Mountain Schools.
