In 2018 we celebrated the Club’s 15th year. It has been quite a ride.
BRIEF HISTORY
The Sierra Shadow Casters, MC (SSCMC) was the creation of several bikers in Mariposa, CA in Sept of 2003. The idea was to form a club that could not only ride together but to also do some good for the community. We adopted the Motto of "Riding for Others" and it wasn't long before our membership rose to over 100 -- many who didn't even ride joined as "Friends of the SSC."
The SSC created its two annual signature runs, the Sierra Moon Shine Run and the Sierra Memorial Run which goes through Yosemite. Both runs are still going today for the purpose of raising money for charitable causes.
In the early years we helped collect toys for needy kids at Christmas in conjunction with the local sheriff’s department. (Cops for Kids). Today we partner with others to provide new bicycles to families who can’t afford them.
The list of charitable acts grew to Scholarships for alternative High School students who were good kids but had square-peg personalities that did not fit into the round hole of the "Regular" High School. We provided Coats of Kids, cash donation to the Manna House and Families of fallen Riders, or to folks who lost their homes.
Then as 2008-9 rolled in several members went in different directions as sometimes happens. The SSC members rode occasionally as individuals over the next few years and reminisced about the good times
ON A ROLL
In October of 2014 at a Club reunion it was decided by all to bring the SSC back on the Road, formally.
We made a few changes: the club reorganized as non-profit corporation 501(c)4 tax exempt organization. New members will go through a "candidate" process and there are minimum requirements for maintaining membership. The Board of Directors (officers) include the President, Vice-President, Sargent at Arms, Treasurer and Secretary/Member at Large. All officer positions are voted by the membership.
We are an all-bike club meaning we don’t care what you ride as long as it has 3 wheels or less and it has a motor. We have several Lady riders and members of all ages. The average age is around 50 but we do have several members in their 40s. We welcome 30 somethings but they seem to be few between.
Since the reformation of the SSC as a Non Profit Charitable Civic Organization, we have held many very successful fundraising Poker Runs starting with a 2015 benefit for the badly injured Fresno Fire Captain Pete Dern, then The Children's Museum of the Sierra in Oakhurst. 2016 Moonshine Run raised funds for the Coarsegold volunteer fire Dept.s, and the 2017 Memorial Run proceeds were used in support of victims of Mariposa fires. In 2018 the Moonshine Run was dedicated to the Caring Veterans of America. We are very proud of our long-standing efforts to help Foothill charitable organizations and we plan to stay on a roll.
