We need your input! Eastern Oregon University is conducting a survey to better understand avalanche safety preparedness among motorized backcountry users like you. Your feedback will help us learn more about who is purchasing and practicing with avalanche rescue gear (beacon, probe, shovel) and participating in avalanche education—and why some riders aren’t. The survey is confidential and anonymous.

Your feedback is invaluable in improving avalanche education and awareness. Please take a moment to share your experience and help us make a difference.

The we**ie wagon ride has been moved from Saturday to Sunday the 16th. Please RSVP if you are planning to attend. We'll of course have plenty of food for those who may decide last minute but RSVPing will help us plan.

Conditions on the trail are pretty scary and we are in need of some snow, the groomer wasn't able to push last week due to lack of snow. Due to the snow conditions we are going to reschedule the we**ie ride for Sunday February 16th, we are supposed to get snow Thursday through Saturday so I'm hoping that there will be enough snow with these storms that Ben can groom us a nice smooth trail for the we**ie ride. Holding the we**ie ride on Sunday should hopefully provide us with a bluebird day and some nice fresh powder.

Many of you have heard the rumor that Summit County was planning to not plow Chalk Creek Road all the way to the trailhead this winter due to budget cuts. We have been able to confirm through both the County Council and Public Works that they will maintain Chalk Creek Road this winter as they have in the past.

What we haven’t been able to confirm is what will happen after this winter. We have heard that next year the cuts could be proposed and have also heard that one landowner is considering proposing to the County to plow beyond the trailhead so that they have year-round vehicle access. The latter of those two could actually be beneficial to us, but we are going to have to fight for a parking area and power for the groomer.

In either situation our membership numbers are going to be extremely important as we move into 2025 when these conversations start taking place. We need the numbers to show we have support in keeping this an active and usable trailhead. If you ride Chalk Creek you need to support the club. It doesn’t matter if you ever join us on a club ride or any kind of club activity, we need the support of membership numbers. If you can afford to ride you can afford a membership. It’s less than you’ll spend on one ride’s worth of fuel. Join today at snowut.com and make sure to select Chalk Creek Riders as your club.
