was started in 1975 by a youth group that had spent time serving at the Hinton Rural Life Center and wanted to bring their experience back home to Tennessee. The first summer started with 2 camp weeks and a handful of youth groups, and today MTOP has over 2,000 volunteers year-round serving in multiple programs, serving 7 counties on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee. is celebrating its 40th yea

r of ministry and the changes and growth that has happened and is currently happening in our service area. MTOP takes a holistic approach to meeting the needs of our community by keeping these objectives in the forefront of our missions. Foundational Objective: To help meet the physical, spiritual, social, and emotional needs of the Tennessee Cumberland Mountain people

We see all four needs as equally important. Through home repairs and day camps, Mountain T.O.P. We serve in partnership with other agencies, churches, governments, business, and leaders to help develop the communities in which we work. Mountain T.O.P.'s 5 Focus Areas:

• Eliminating Substandard Housing: to provide direct services and organizational support that addresses severe housing issues in our service area.

• Leadership: to foster growth among staff, participants, donors and the community.

• Community Development: to engage in solutions with community partners for holistic and sustainable community growth.

• Education: to provide and support opportunities for lifelong learning and personal growth for all ages.

• Health: to promote lifestyles that support healthy choices.

Staff Training can feel like information overload, but we make sure we take plenty of breaks for dancing, singing, games, worship, and prayer. All of these things—from the technical skills to the silly campfire skits—are forming our summer staff into caring and courageous leaders.

Our first week of Day Camp starts 2 weeks from today!

Day Camp is for children in Grundy County ages 6-11.

In the morning, children are introduced to a daily theme by playing games, making a craft, and learning a Bible story. In the afternoon, children go on a field trip. Field trip locations include fire stations, state parks, farms, Grundy County Historical Society, Grundy County Courthouse, Sewanee: University of the South, and more! On Friday, families are invited to Mountain T.O.P. for a celebration of the week together.

Lunch and transportation are provided! $25 per child, per week.

Staff Training is all about practice! Our staffers are given lots of opportunities to practice leading music, speak about their faith, and facilitate group conversations. We even practice games!

Summer staff training is a hugely formative professional development experience! The skills our staff are learning will benefit them now and in any job or role they have in the future.

It’s been a full first 24 hours of staff training! We celebrated Hailey’s birthday, talked about staff culture, and went on some field trips. We visited the Fiery Gizzard State Park, the Grundy County Historical Society, the Dutch Maid Bakery, and Stone Door. More adventures await!

Mountain T.O.P. is accepting home repair referrals for the summer!

📍 In the summer, Mountain T.O.P. volunteers work in Grundy County, Marion County, Van Buren County, Bledsoe County, White County, Warren County, Sequatchie County, and Franklin County (Sewanee area).

🔨 Mountain T.O.P. can do painting, yard work, repairing or building porches, repairing or building exterior stairs, repairing or building ramps.

Mountain T.O.P. is offering 7 weeks of Day Camp and 1 week of Summer Plus for children & youth of Grundy County.

DAY CAMP is for children ages 6-11 years old. In the morning, children are introduced to a daily theme by playing games, making a craft, and learning a Bible story. In the afternoon, children go on a field trip.

SUMMER PLUS is for youth 12-17 years old. It is a workshop-based camp that introduces youth to new skills and hobbies. In the morning, youth participate in two workshops of their choosing. In the afternoon, youth enjoy guest speakers and fun activities.
