Today we take a moment to honor the legacy of nearly 500,000 Marines who served during the Vietnam War.

When Marines landed in Vietnam in 1965, their courage was tested in some of the most storied battles and operations in Marine Corps history—including Operation Starlite, Operation Hastings, Khe Sanh, Hue City, and Operation Dewey Canyon.

Their service in the jungles and cities of Vietnam would help reshape the Marine Corps’ approach to warfighting and cement their contributions to the Corps’ history.

In partnership with the Purple Heart Association of Oklahoma, this display will serve as a powerful tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Each boot represents a life lost — a name, a story, a hero.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Coalgate VFW Auxiliary Post 1198 Treasurer, Debbie Krebbs. She has graciously accepted the task of being our treasurer over the past couple of years which is truly a thankless position. We do however very much appreciate all that she does to maintain this position…keeping our financial books, membership, and all of our reports up to date. For every meeting or event she is always wiling to volunteer not only her time but her amazing baking/cooking skills from homemade breads, cinnamon rolls, cakes, pies, and deviled eggs just to name a few. We are truly blessed to have her in our Post❣️🇺🇸🙌🏻

Last week was Dr. Seuss week and members of our community were encouraged to come read to the kids at the elementary school. Two of our Coalgate VFW Auxiliary Post 1198 members, Rhonda Sharp and Shiloh Beck, were up for the challenge and enjoyed reading to the children.
