Every day this week - Banned Book Week - We are posting at 6 pm a snippet of a banned book. Our library and several community members are sharing a few examples of the many books which have been banned and/ or challenged in our nation. The American Library Association gathers data from around the country identifying books which have been challenged/banned. Our library has chosen a few of these books to shed light on the degree of censorship in the United States.

From the American Library Association:

"Since 1982, Banned Books Week has enlightened the public about attempts to censor books in libraries, schools, and bookstores. The 2026 event is an opportunity to inform communities about the escalation in censorship and the importance of the right to read. This year’s theme is “Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read."

ALA compiles data on book challenges from reports filed by library professionals in the field and from news stories published throughout the United States.

This begins BANNED BOOK WEEK !! Every evening at 6pm... a different banned book will be introduced. Cindy will be reading a bit from The Lorax. This book was banned... I wonder why??
