Share: Veteran entering Recovery, Cat Needs Care 🐈

TEMPORARY FOSTER NEEDED ASAP: A member of our community is in need of temporary foster while he enters recovery. He gave authorization to share a part of his story in hopes it would get some more traction and a possible foster for his sweet lady. Tuna needs a space to crash til she is reunited with her owner. What is Summer Camp? Our Summer Camp program is a temporary foster program for owners experiencing temporary homelessness, domestic violence, addiction, mental health, or physical health issues. This program helps keep the animal out of overcrowded shelters while giving owners the respite they need and the ability to be reunited with their beloved pet. Just because they are “going through something” doesn’t mean they are a bad person or pet owner. While their animals are in our care we provide sterilization, vaccines, medical care, and food when needed. These animals aren’t always shared publicly due to privacy reasons, but we are always in need of fosters and donations to support this vital program.

Between the glam, on-point hair, & performances…Dolly Parton was also a big supporter for animal welfare, and utilized her platform to advocate for shelter pets in need. 💖

Dolly highlighted the importance of adopting, compared to buying from shops & breeders-additionally she launched a pet product line, where proceeds were used to help other shelters in need.

In loving memory of Dolly, always remember to spread kindness….
& maybe add a touch of pink glitter too. 🫶🥹👑

The amount of stories we see like this is saddening. That is why we have our Summer Camp Program. But it doesn’t work without fosters. Currently we have a lady being evacuated from her home for demolition post Helene and she needs a foster for her cat. If anyone can help please let us know. ❤️💙

💔 **Eddie doesn't need a new family. He needs a new home for the family he already has.**

This is Eddie. He’s 11 years old, a big ol’ pit mix, and he has a story that is both heartbreaking and hopeful.

Eleven years ago, "Laura" (we are changing her name for privacy) found Eddie on the side of the road as a puppy. She brought him home, trained him, loved him, and built a life around him. Eddie has been her boy ever since.

Then life fell apart.

After 23 years of marriage, Laura’s husband left. As part of the divorce, their home has to be sold. Laura desperately searched for somewhere they could live together, but welcome to post-Helene Appalachian living — rental prices are through the roof, and the only home she could find was **no pets allowed.**

So, with absolutely no other option, Laura surrendered Eddie to Mitchell County Animal Rescue.

And honestly? At this point, a lot of people might walk away.

But Laura didn't.

They come to see Eddie **2–4 times every single week.** She takes him for walks. She sits with him. She loves on him.

And she cries every single time she has to leave.

Because she doesn't want to be alone.

**She wants Eddie.**

And that is what makes this so incredibly hard. We know how difficult it can be to find a home for an 11-year-old, large pit mix. But Eddie already has someone who loves him. Someone who knows him. Someone who has spent 11 years making him part of her family.

Eddie is a wonderful dog — and honestly, you can tell a lot about a person by their dog.

And we think you can tell a lot about Laura by Eddie, too. ❤️

So we're asking our community for something a little different.

**Can you help us find Laura a rental home?**

🏡 Burnsville or Spruce Pine area
💰 Around $700–$800/month
🐾 A place where Eddie can come home

**MCAR will cover the security deposit. We will arrange to get Laura and Eddie moved into their new home.**

We just need someone to open a door.

I know this community. I know what Appalachian people do when someone needs help.

**We figure it out.**

Please share this post. Ask your landlord. Ask your neighbor. Ask your friend who has a rental property. Ask the person you know who knows someone with a house sitting empty.

Maybe the perfect little home is out there, and we just haven't found it yet.

✨Meet Mango Chutney✨

….our newest little Misfit! 🥭

Sometimes the sweetest things come in the messiest packages….& this teeny, wiggly bundle of love was surrendered to VEG ER For Pets, after her family found that she tested positive for parvo.
With the family unable to pursue treatment, this little girl soon found herself facing euthanasia….

Scared, sick, and alone, she needed a miracle….

That’s where Misfit Mountain stepped in!

We scooped up this spicy little fruit (though, she’s actually the sweetest little pup), and promised her she’s safe now!

100% good girl, & she may be parvo positive, but her tail-wagging spirit is a strong positive too! 😭🥹💯

Parvo is a serious & contagious virus-between hospitalization, fluids, medications, round-the-clock care...it adds up quick!
Parvo treatment & medical care can usually range between $1500-$3000-however, this is always dependent on the overall treatment plan, level of patient severity, or days of hospitalization needed.

Mango didn’t choose to get sick, and we won’t let a vet bill decide her future.

Baby Mango is asking for help for her hospital stay & parvo treatment-any little bit helps, and it all makes such a big difference!
Please help give her a real shot at a healthy, happy life, & please share her story if you’re in a position to do so!🫶

Our goal is a smooth, speedy recovery and ultimately a forever family (once medically cleared), who will never give up on her.

Immediate Foster or Adopter Needed: Harry is currently living with his owner in a car and needs to find a new forever home as the owner is unsure how long it will be until he is back on his feet.

Here is the Bio the owner shared with us: He is the most loving cat I've met! He absolutely loves people and attention more than food, treats or toys. He's a lap kitty and loves to cuddle with people and other pets. He loves to play fetch, kitty soccer, chase the red dot and pop bubbles. Even though he is 6 years old, he still plays like a kitten and likes to be held like a baby. He is very vocal and I've had full on conversations with him! I've had good experience introducing him to other cats and dogs, though he immediately wants to play with new friends. He's usually the first one to greet new people at the door and will immediately sit on anyone's lap as soon as they sit down. He does have allergies and will need a new prescription for an inhaler (which Misfit Mountain will take care of while fostering).

Owner is unable to get a job as they have no place for Harry to stay while at work as it is not safe for the cat to stay in the car. If you can help Harry please complete a foster application on our website and send us an email [email protected]

Share: Owner Taken By ICE, Cat Needs Care 🐈

TEMPORARY FOSTER NEEDED ASAP: A member of our community was detained by ICE and is being held at the detention center until the 26th (we will find out more then). He is an artist and friend to many locals here and we need help with his indoor/outdoor cat who is super friendly. Can you temporarily take a cat into foster? We are currently are calling him Fuerte. Let’s take care of our neighbors when they need it the most!

✨Bruno Boy!✨

Sweet Bruno has been adjusting to his foster home life with , and doing amazing!
This boy has been in training sessions to work on basic skills, & he has mastered the art of “sit” as well-he does well with other dog friends, new humans, and absolutely loves adventures like walks around the neighborhood or even paddle boarding….woohoo!😎

Bruno is:

Aged around 3 years old, & between 30-35lbs✅
Neutered, microchipped, & up to date on vaccines✅
Crate trained & knows basic commands✅
Walks well on leash & does great with other dog friends✅
Such a perfect pup who can’t wait to put a smile on your face everyday!✅

Friends. We need your help. 🌈🌈🌈🐕‍🦺🐈

Today Misfit Mountain, a q***r owned and operated volunteer animal rescue in Clyde, NC was the target of a hate crime. We believe in inclusivity and welcome everyone to our community space, campground, and animal rescue. And we will continue to be a force for good for all humans and animals. Misfit Mountain was the fiscal sponsor for the inaugural Pride On Main festival in Haywood County and remains committed to inclusivity.

We are used to having to replace our pride flag as this was our fourth one in two years. But just two days ago volunteer Kim Lippes hung up our Pride Flag again and today our rescue sign, mailbox, and flags were knocked down broken, and destroyed. This sign cost $3,150 and it took us four birthday fundraisers to raise enough to have our local J.A.Moody Construction, Inc. make us this beautiful sign that was to serve us for many years to come.

This is disheartening but resilience is something we know all to well. Please consider donating to help us raise enough to replace our sign and get better security systems (In total $4,000 dollars).

This attack happened during the times of 2:18pm to 2:24pm today (Wednesday the 19th).
Also, if you know who this employee is that works at the end of Incinerator (a road closed to the public), this is who is responsible for the vandalism, as they were caught by our still camera and shown circling the rescue 6 times in an hour and a half. A police report had been filed and this was a direct hit as no other neighbors signs or mailboxes were targeted.

Please share this far and wide.
So that 1. We can raise funds for a new sign and 2. Because we won’t tolerate hate in Haywood County.
