Our H.A.L.O.S.

We are an all-volunteer national non-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) status. Our membership is made up of our board of directors, support staff, online forumsโ€™ members, committee members, and volunteers from throughout the United States and the world. Our programs are 100% funded through grants, special fundraisers, and donations from our supporters and partners. The majority of our funding goes

directly back into programs that enrich and improve the lives of the law enforcement families we support. Our Programs Include:

-Educational Scholarships
We offer educational scholarships to the spouses and dependent children of federal, state, and local law enforcement officers. Through special fundraisers, grants, and donations from our supporters, we are able to provide financial assistance to help police families complete their higher educational goals.

-WBTB Support Forums
Our online support forums offer friendship, support, understanding, and entertainment to spouses and significant others of police officers. Our members span the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia, and combine to make one incredibly unique sisterhood. *Membership is always free!

-Families Behind the Badge Support Forums
Our online support forums offer support and a safe place for the families of law enforcement officers to connect and share. We welcome all family members and officers themselves to join in the discussions. *Membership is always free!

-Blue Line Kids
The Blue Line Kids Program features a separate secure online forum for law enforcement children, ages 12-17, to connect and talk. The program also features contests, giveaways, and games for law enforcement kids of all ages.

-H.A.L.O.S. (Helping Aid Lost Officers Survivors) Program offers sympathy and support in the event of a line of duty death. The verified members of Wives Behind the Badge are โ€œAngelsโ€ to the surviving spouses, families, and departments of fallen law enforcement officers and fallen K-9 officers.

-Auxiliary Committees
Our state Auxiliary Committees act as a local and state extension of the programs and resources we offer nationally. Our ultimate goal is to have volunteers working in each state to make sure every law enforcement family is taken care of.

Honoring All Who Have Served this Veteran's Day!

The U.S. Military is us. There is no truer representation of a country than the people that it sends into the field to fight for it. The people who wear our uniform and carry our rifles into combat are our kids, and our job is to support them, because they're protecting us. -Tom Clancy

Chief MacNamara has been an avid supporter of our CT NALES Chapter. We are saddened to hear of his retirement, but wish him the best of luck in the future. Thank you so much for your support and hope that we will still cross paths in some capacity. Congratulations on your retirement!

The men and women of the Fairfield Police Department congratulate Chief Gary MacNamara on his retirement and wish him the best in his future endeavors!

Chief MacNamara began his career with the Fairfield Police Department as a patrol officer in January 1988. He continued on to serve as a Field Training Officer and was temporarily assigned to an Auto Theft Task Force. MacNamara was promoted to Sergeant in 1998, Lieutenant in 2001 and Captain in 2006. He has also served in the capacity of a Detective and Detective Sergeant. Prior to becoming Chief, MacNamara served as the Deputy Chief of Police with duties that included overseeing the Field Services Division. He has overseen the Emergency Response Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, Training Unit, Internal Affairs, Accreditation and Public Information. MacNamara was sworn in as Chief of Police in 2010.

In 2002, MacNamara was the lead negotiator at Fairfield University where he successfully negotiated the release of 27 students and a professor held hostage on the campus by a subject claiming to possess an explosive device. That same year, MacNamara was a Fairfield County Hero Award nominee for courage, dedication and commitment to Public service, and Police officer of the year for the Bridgeport Exchange Club.

Chief MacNamara has taught in a variety of areas including Critical Incident Response, Interview and Interrogation techniques, auto theft, internet safety for both children and parents, school violence and hostage negotiations. MacNamara is a 2004 graduate of the FBI National Academy (219), as well as a 2009 graduate of the FBI LEEDS Session #61. He is also an adjunct professor at POST University.

MacNamara is ever present in the media and was a former journalist for the Justice Journal where he wrote a monthly column called "What if." He has appeared as the co-host of a local public access television series โ€œJust the factsโ€ and has appeared on the NBC Today Show, Geraldo Show, MSNBC Live, Dateline NBC and the Line-up on Fox News. MacNamara has become a vocal supporter of victims of domestic violence, and each spring, dons red high heels to โ€œWalk a Mile in Her Shoes.โ€

Chief MacNamara holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement Science and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of New Haven, Connecticut.

Chief, thank you for your many years of service to the Town of Fairfield, CT and to the men and women of this Department. You will be missed and we wish you all the best at Sacred Heart University!

Happy Labor Day!!

Have a Safe and Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Through the years the nation gave increasing emphasis to Labor Day. The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during 1885 and 1886. From these, a movement developed to secure state legislation. The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During the year four more states โ€” Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York โ€” created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of the decade Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By 1894, 23 other states had adopted the holiday in honor of workers, and on June 28 of that year, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.
