Fresno County Sheriff's Jeep Rescue Unit

Volunteer search and rescue team supporting the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Established in 1965, we respond to emergencies in remote and backcountry areas throughout Fresno County.

Our recent summer SAR training brought members from the Fresno County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue teams together for a couple days in the mountains.

For our unit, that meant technical driving, navigation and communications, and working alongside the Mountaineering Team and other SAR units to locate, treat, and safely extract a patient.

Trainings like this give us a chance to work together, learn from each other, and stay ready.

Our members are all volunteers, and community support helps make our trainings and readiness possible. If you’d like to support what we do, join us October 17 for our 3rd Annual Oktoberfest fundraiser.

Today we remember John Skadden, one of our original members.

John was one of the volunteers from the Four Wheel Drive Club of Fresno who helped establish the Sheriff's Jeep Rescue Unit. More than 60 years later, we're still building on the foundation that John and the other original members created.

Our thoughts are with John's family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

We're excited to announce our 3rd Annual Oktoberfest!

Join us on October 17th for an evening of great food, a no host bar, and live and silent auctions in support of the Unit.

As an all-volunteer Search & Rescue team under the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, we rely on community support to help fund volunteer training, rescue, recovery, and medical equipment, ensuring we're prepared to serve when we're needed.

Spending time on the trails gives us an opportunity to strengthen teamwork, learn from one another, and stay familiar with the backcountry we may one day be called to respond in.

Not every day together is a formal training or mission. Sometimes it's just a good day in the mountains with good people.

Search and Rescue is a team effort.

The Jeep Rescue Unit assisted alongside the Fresno County Sheriff's Office and fellow Search and Rescue volunteers during the recent search near Pine Flat Lake.

We’re thankful the subject was found safe. Thank you to everyone who played a part in bringing this search to a successful conclusion.

Remote and unmaintained roads can quickly become impassable. Fortunately, everyone involved was safe.

Before venturing into remote areas:
• Download offline maps
• Share your plans with someone
• Carry water and emergency supplies
• Check road and weather conditions
• Know your vehicle’s limitations

Preparation is one of the best tools you can bring with you. Know before you go.

The Unit recently participated in an off-road recovery course focused on safe and effective recovery techniques, proper equipment use, and decision-making, with an emphasis on putting people and safety first.

It was great to be part of the Clovis Rodeo Parade last weekend alongside the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and members from other Search and Rescue units.

A good reminder of the community we serve and the teams we work with.

Yeehaw, we’re out at the Clovis Rodeo this week!
