Please read this blog on eBikes. This new law affects a lot more than us recreational cyclists. It affects; people that are dependent on eBikes for transportation, the handicapped, the elderly, and NJ tourism and state revenue.
In an already restrictive state for cycling, NJ upped their game and made it harder for more people to get outside on low speed pedal assist bikes.

New Jersey’s 2026 e-bike law changes everything. Learn the new rules, requirements, and what it means for riders, commuters, and trail access in North Jersey.

Every spring, the New York Cycle Club offers hundreds of its members the opportunity to participate in our free progressive training programs, the SIG (Special Interest Group) and STS (Spring Training Series). Both programs―run by experienced ride leaders―will jump start your season and explore the wonderful cycling available in New Jersey, Rockland, Westchester and beyond, as well as welcoming you into the community of NYCC.

You should watch this until the end and share it.
This S4834 will close the majority of bike shops in NJ. Even if you are personally independent of a bike shop, there’s millions of people who are dependent on shops for sales, repairs, and support.

New Jersey lawmakers are attempting to pass E-Bike legislation that would categorize them much like mopeds, requiring DOT-approved helmets, insurance, and re...

ACT NOW: STOP S4834/A6235
to SAVE Low-Speed E-Bikes before it's too late!

NJBWC along with many safe streets advocates has spoken out in opposition to the e-bike bill legislation (S4834/A6235) requiring insurance, registration and a license to ride ANY e-bike in NJ, including low speed e-bikes that go under 20mph.

After hearing from many NJBWC and coalition partners, alongside more than 3600 co-signers who opposed this bill, a new version was put forward at the end of December that continues to raise major concerns.

This bill was rushed through during the lame duck session, passed through Senate committees, and will be heard tomorrow, January 8th, in the last Assembly committee needed before it can be voted through on full votes from both houses.
We need you to CALL or WRITE your
Assembly Representatives
and Committee Members IMMEDIATELY
to STOP this bill from advancing to a full vote.

In just a single month, a new bill requiring a drivers license, registration, and insurance to ride the lowest-speed e-bikes has been racing through the legislature, despite unanimous opposition from transportation advocacy organizations. This bill lumps all low speed e-bikes with higher speed devic...

We're thrilled to share that 2025 has been our most productive year yet! Thanks to your support, we've made significant strides toward our long-term goal of establishing Sterling Forest as a top riding destination in the Northeast, with over 40 miles of planned multi-use trails.

Here are some key accomplishments from 2025:
Redback South, a trail built at record speed in Sterling Forest State Park
E-Bike Policy Change implemented in Sterling Forest
Major rehabilitation project initiated on the original loop and in Sterling
A highly successful group ride and gathering
Planning underway for a beginner loop at Sterling

Attention Sterling Forest riders! It’s freeze thaw season. This means the new work we just paid and volunteered for turns into unrideable peanut butter after 10 AM. Please consider not riding it or walking it the moment you start to leave ruts. Or better yet, ride early and meet your friends for brunch.
We’ve been working hard to build these trails, we don’t want to work hard to fix them. Spread the word and share this to your story.

Yes! The “no electric bicycle” signs have been removed at Sterling Forest SP. The official policy has been changed to allow Class-1 e-bikes on the multi-use trails ONLY. What does this mean? See image 3 to understand what class-1 is. This also means that the trails that are currently open to cyclist will now be open to class-1. The hiking only trails will still be closed to cycling whether it’s electric or acoustic. A huge thanks to PIPC and NY State parks for refining their policies to allow more folks to enjoy these incredible trails.
Please consider making a donation to us this year so we can continue to put money back into the park system to continue to build more.
