Our Story

On November 17, 2015 I called my doctor because I hadn't felt my baby move all morning and I was having contractions. I was almost 38 weeks pregnant, so they told me to head to the hospital’s labor and delivery for a check. I headed over there by myself, thinking I was going to have a baby in the next few hours. I got all settled in and they checked for a heartbeat at 1pm, and by 1:04 I knew something was very wrong. They couldn't find a heartbeat... I will not go into everything that came after, but you can imagine going in to the hospital to have your baby, and you do, you have to go through all the same labor and delivery journey, but then there is no crying after he’s born, or any of the other wonderful, precious moments that you were expecting. You are then released to go home with no baby, empty arms, nothing to show for the 9 months of pregnancy, and a broken heart.

Shortly after Benjamin was stillborn, I saw a PSA on counting kicks during the third trimester of pregnancy. I had just delivered my 5th full term baby and had never heard of anything like this. Needless to say I joined up with this group called Healthy Birthday and their campaign Count the Kicks as an ambassador for Oregon. My goal is to help educate expectant mothers, and everyone who knows an expectant mother, to count your baby’s movements in the third trimester. I would love to save every single baby from being stillborn, but even saving one single baby and saving one family from the devastation and heartbreak that comes with it, would be worth the world to me. This is how we have chosen to honor Benjamin’s memory.
