Clintonville Rotary Club Celebrates Police Captain Dennis Schroeder's Retirement After 34 Years of Dedicated Public Service
CLINTONVILLE, WI — The Clintonville Police Department and the City of Clintonville announced the retirement of Police Captain Dennis Schroeder, effective May 2026.
Captain Schroeder concludes an exemplary 34-year career in law enforcement, leaving behind a legacy of steady leadership, technological modernization, and deep commitment to the Clintonville community.
Throughout more than three decades of service, Captain Schroeder rose steadily through the department's ranks, serving as an officer, Sergeant, and ultimately as Police Captain, a leadership role he held with distinction for the final ten years of his career.
"Captain Schroeder has been a foundational pillar of our department and a trusted protector of this community for over a generation," said Clintonville Chief of Police Craig Freitag. "His institutional knowledge, dedication to public safety, and mentorship of younger officers have shaped the culture of the Clintonville Police Department for the better. We are incredibly grateful for his lifetime of service."
Captain Schroeder’s career spanned a period of immense evolution in modern law enforcement. Known for his forward-thinking approach, he was instrumental in introducing critical advancements to the force.
Notably, in December 1999, he spearheaded the department’s first demonstration and implementation of Taser technology to the local Police and Fire Commission. He also managed key equipment upgrades over the years, including the transition to new department service weapons as a Sergeant in 2005.
His leadership proved vital during times of organizational transition. Following the retirement of Chief Jim Beggs in early 2019, Captain Schroeder stepped forward to serve as the department's Interim Chief, ensuring operational stability and a seamless transition of power before returning to his vital role as Captain.
The Clintonville Common Council formally recognized Captain Schroeder's retirement and exceptional public service during its May 2026 session, extending the city’s profound gratitude for his 34 years of vigilance and community care.
The Clintonville Rotary Club, community, city staff, and his fellow law enforcement officers wish Captain Schroeder a healthy, fulfilling, and well-deserved retirement.
