Kids First - Island County The Kids First Team aims to promote involvement by the entire community in helping children enjoy opportunities that are part of a normal childhood.

Founded in 2009, Kids First is dedicated to fulfilling the unmet needs of children in foster care by building partnerships that link children with opportunities in Island County. Opportunities like:

Music Lessons
Summer Camps
Graduation Events and Hope Chests
Swimming Lessons
Sessions with a Hair Stylist

Whidbey Children’s Day is returning on Saturday, September 12th — and it is going to be the best day of the year for families on this island!

We are so proud to be working alongside an incredible crew of local organizations to bring this beloved tradition home. This is Whidbey showing up for Whidbey. Neighbor to neighbor. The way it’s always been.

Free activities. Smiles for miles. Every family welcome.

It is no surprise that the month of May is chosen as National Foster Care Awareness Month. The month of May carries us ‘well’ into Springtime, the season that embodies the promise of life renewed 🌷

Communities across the nation are stepping up to show their appreciation for foster & relative families, child welfare professionals, volunteers & policy makers for their efforts on behalf of children who are in foster care.

To the Island and San Juan County judiciary, to social workers and Volunteer Guardians Ad Litem, thank you for your tireless efforts!

To all who provide care as foster and kin parents, your communities are grateful to you!

You are the ones who follow the rules, keep the records, tend to appointments, help with homework, cook the meals, wash the clothes, heal the wounds, celebrate the joys, and wake up at night to comfort and soothe restless children.
