And in this regard, persons with true-life touching personal struggles, real champions of human rights who have battled immeasurable odds with little or no external support, are often considered as ‘inconsequential’ in the human rights debate. These human rights activists and campaigners, real heroes to the cause but not darling to the celebrity-picking media houses are condemned to the dustbin of history. This epitomizes our honoree, the story of Ebenezer Akwanga, and the EAHRHI is founded on the premise that no other human rights activist or campaigner should be erroneously abandoned to the whims and caprices of brutal state signatories, to the diabolic machinery of torture with impunity by individuals sponsored by a state.
