Today is Flag Day 🇺🇸
We should all know what the flag stands for but do you know what its design means?

The US flag, often called the "Stars and Stripes," "Old Glory," or the "Star-Spangled Banner," is rich with symbolism and history.

Here's a breakdown of what its key components mean:

Stars: The fifty white stars in the blue canton (the upper left corner) represent the 50 states of the United States. The inclusion of each state represents unity among them, regardless of their size, geography, or time of admission. The blue field itself symbolizes vigilance, perseverance, and justice, representing the American spirit's commitment to upholding these values.

Stripes: The thirteen horizontal stripes, alternating red and white, represent the thirteen original colonies that declared independence from British rule. These stripes remind citizens of the sacrifices and struggles during the Revolutionary War and the nation's founding.

Colors:
Red: Signifies hardiness and valor, courage and readiness to sacrifice. It can also represent the blood shed by those who fought to protect the nation's freedom.

White: Represents purity and innocence. It suggests the righteous intentions of the states and the nation's aspiration to maintain high moral standards.

Blue: As mentioned earlier, it represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

Flag 🇺🇸 Day is on Saturday June 14th…do you know your flag protocols?

Displaying the Flag:

Timing:
The flag should be displayed from sunrise to sunset, according to the VFW Auxiliary National Organization. If displayed at night, it should be illuminated.

Placement:
When displayed with other flags, the American flag should be on the right, the flag's own right, and its staff should be in front of the other flag's staff.

Orientation:
The blue field (union) should be uppermost and to the flag's own right when displayed horizontally or vertically against a wall or in a window.

No other flags above:
No other flag or pennant should be placed above or to the right of the American flag, except during church services conducted by naval chaplains at sea.

Do not dip:
The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing.
