Foster Care: Honest Conversations, Open Hearts 💛
Week one (part three) of our Foster Care Awareness Month FAQ series. Another question we hear often is: *Can I foster if I work full time?*
The answer is yes — absolutely. Foster parents come from all kinds of work and schooling situations: full-time, part-time, work-from-home, single parents, and dual-income households. All are welcome.
What matters most is not your job status, but your flexibility, preparation, and support system. Foster care will require coordination, backup plans, and a community you can lean on when schedules shift or needs arise 🤝
Children in foster care attend school or childcare just like other children, and there are supports available to help families manage those needs.
If you’re considering fostering while working, we encourage you to think through your capacity, build your support network, and make a solid childcare plan before a child ever enters your home. 💛 And if you’re unsure, there are also ways to start small — like respite or short-term care — as you discern what works best for your family.
