A horse and buggy were the way to travel at the turn of the 20th century, as seen here in our photo from around 1905. When traveling salesman arrived in Clinton by train, they could walk from the depot down Market Street (then called Depot Street) to the Livery & Feed Store to rent a buggy. Ironically, with the advent of the automobile, when the store closed, a Chevrolet dealership moved into the building. The Livery & Feed store was on the corner of today’s Market Street and Freddy Fagan Way.

Maybe it’s the friends you run into on the sidewalk. The kids riding bikes. The families out for a stroll. The neighbors who stop to say hello. Whatever it is - I can’t believe this is my hometown.

Because it’s the feeling of a walkable, pedestrian-friendly downtown where people of all ages can gather, connect, shop local, grab a bite, and simply enjoy being together.

Historic buildings don't become beautiful overnight. Preservation requires patience, investment, attention to detail, and a deep respect for the stories these buildings hold. It means caring for what was built before us while making it has a future ahead. And man are we excited about what the future holds here!

When you look down a street like this you realize that a lot of people are doing a lot of great things. Some things are worth waiting for. Some things are worth protecting. And some things are worth preserving for generations to come.

Clinton’s first automobile dealership opened in 1914 on Market Street. Eager Clinton residents would go see Robert A. Moser for their brand new Ford Model T at his store seen here, where today’s Marshall Vintage Timepieces and Realty Executives are located. A highlight of Mr. Moser’s career was probably the day Henry Ford himself visited Clinton!

We are so thankful to have our sidewalks back, Market Street reopened, and, most importantly, to see so many of you returning to shop, dine, and enjoy Downtown Clinton again. After more than a year of construction, seeing our businesses bustling once more is something we've all been looking forward to.
While it may look like the project is complete, there is still important work ahead. Over the coming weeks, the focus will shift to the finishing details that will make this project truly complete.
That includes:
• Thorough cleaning throughout the project area, including removing concrete splatter, mortar, and other construction residue.
• Addressing any damage that may have occurred during construction.
• Completing the remaining landscape punch list, including items identified by the landscaping contractor.
• Sealing all ornamental concrete.
• Caulking expansion joints.
• Finishing the remaining concrete contractor punch list and other final details.
These finishing touches are an important part of delivering the beautiful, high-quality streetscape our community deserves.
Thank you for your patience, your encouragement, and especially for supporting our downtown businesses throughout this journey. The hardest part is behind us, and we're excited to see Market Street continue to shine as these final details come together.
