Some doors are built with wood and paint. Others are built with community.
For our Frontier Jubilee at The Clinch River Antique Festival - Historic Downtown Clinton, the students at Anderson County Career & Technical Center built us saloon doors - doors that became a symbol of something even more meaningful.
They opened to a community full of young people who remind us what makes Clinton special. They opened for the Clinton High School cheer, dance, and football teams, who walked through them and into the cheers of a community that was proud to celebrate them before their big game just down the road. (Clinton High School Cheerleading, Clinton High School Dance Team, CHS Dragons Football Booster Club, Clinton High School).
They opened because Clinton FFA students filled our downtown with the colors of fall, decorating with mums, pumpkins, and hay bales to make our streets feel like home.
And they opened at 6 a.m. on a rainy Saturday morning, when the Clinton HS Baseball team showed up to help our vendors unload and set up in the pouring rain — on their very first day of fall break. No complaints. Just kids willing to work hard and serve their community.
And then there was the Clinton City Schools Blaze Choir, whose voices filled downtown with a beautiful performance of Coat of Many Colors. There was something especially fitting about hearing a song rooted in love, belonging, and the beauty of being different, sung by the very children who represent our community’s future. They reminded us that sometimes, the most meaningful thing a young person can bring through an open door isn’t a tool, a helping hand, or a team jersey. Sometimes, it’s simply their voice — and the courage to share it with the world.
Different students. Different teams. Different ways of showing up. But all of them reminding us that the future of our community is already right here among us. That’s the beautiful thing about an open door. You never know who is watching, who is being inspired, or what possibility lies on the other side.
To every student, coach, teacher, and advisor who helped make this festival special: THANK YOU! You didn’t just help us put on an event. You showed us what community looks like.
May we always be a community that holds the doors open for our kids, cheers them on as they walk through, and gives them every reason to come back home. Because the best thing we can build in downtown Clinton isn’t just a beautiful place. It’s a place where the next generation knows there’s a place for them.
