Happy International Asexuality Day!

Asexual, often called “ace” for short, refers to a complete or partial lack of sexual attraction or lack of interest in sexual activity with others. Asexuality exists on a spectrum, and asexual people may experience no, little, or conditional sexual attraction.

Asexuality is NOT:
🖤 the same as abstinence/celibacy
🩶 because someone is disabled
🤍 a loss of libido because of age or circumstance
💜 a fear of intimacy
🖤 because you can't feel “love”

Today, March 31st, is International Trans Day of Visibility.

In an era of immense difficulty for the community, it can be hard to remember that Trans Day of Visibility is as much about positivity as it is about awareness and resistance.

The annual awareness day, which takes place on 31 March every year, was founded by activist Rachel Crandall Crocker as an alternative to the comparatively bleak awareness holidays dedicated to trans people, such as Trans Day of Remembrance.

𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐞'𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐌𝐞, 𝐒𝐞𝐞 𝐌𝐞.

In response to the Iowa Legislature’s 2025 repeal of gender identity protections from the Iowa Civil Rights Act, Annie’s Foundation introduces 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐌𝐞, 𝐒𝐞𝐞 𝐌𝐞, a trauma-informed, community-powered literacy project delivering banned and affirming books directly to trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming youth, their families, and allies across Iowa. This initiative is grounded in the belief that representation in literature is both life-affirming and lifesaving.

Leveraging our extensive banned book inventory and grassroots network, we will distribute curated kits and book baskets to individuals, educators, shelters, and community hubs—creating quiet resistance, joyful affirmation, and radical visibility in a state now hostile to LGBTQ+ youth.

𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲 + 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬: Marginalized youth in Iowa are facing erasure. This project affirms their identity and right to learn.

𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐦𝐚-𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝: Research shows representation in media mitigates mental health risks. These books are a soft but powerful intervention.

𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: These books don’t just tell stories—they tell young Iowans: 𝑌𝑜𝑢 𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑟. 𝑌𝑜𝑢 𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑔.

It’s a scary time. And we know that the Texas Supreme Court decision has created additional fear and anxiety for trans people and their loved ones.

We want to be clear: PFLAG National has always been steadfast that we would not turn over our members’ names or identities to the State of Texas. And last week, after two years of litigation, the Texas Supreme Court agreed, making it crystal clear that PFLAG National can continue protecting information about our members’ identities, that the Office of the Attorney General is not above the law, and its actions are subject to meaningful review by the courts.

Even though PFLAG is required to turn over documents that respond to these demands, that does not include information identifying PFLAG members or their families. We have been unwavering in our commitment to protecting our members’ rights to come together without violating their privacy or identities being revealed. PFLAG has always been clear on that point and that has not changed. It never will, and we will never back down.
