He went from pulling a plow…to learning what it means to simply be a horse.

When “Nash” came to us from a local auction, he had spent his life being a hard-working Amish plow horse. His job had always been to work.
When he arrived to us, we vowed this would change drastically.

His main job was to heal, rest, learn this new life and just…be.

His healing journey hasn’t been completely easy though. We’ve navigated white line thrush.
An abscess. A seasonal heaves diagnosis. A long, slow journey to put healthy weight back on his body, which we found to be a little challenging in the beginning.

There have been hiccups. There have been setbacks. But look at him now! He does have a fairly swayed back. Our vet was not too concerned and within his exam found him to not be in pain as one might think with a back like his. This is part of the good news we received! It’s recommended he be in pasture and navigating the little rolling hills we have and moving. Movement is key in building the topline muscles back up.

We could instantly see a transformation though in other areas. In his eyes, expressions, his confidence. The way he carries himself, that doesn’t take long.

So, this is what rescue looks like, not just pulling a horse from an auction and calling it a save. It is, after all.
BUT…
It’s everything that comes AFTER.

The vetting, farrier care, medications, plenty of feed, patience, countless ordinary days where we keep showing up and letting him know we are good. We are here to see him through.

He doesn’t have to work for his worth anymore.
Nash gets to be NASH.
And honestly?
We couldn’t be happier to just watch him thrive.

We love sharing rescue stories with you all, a little snippet of before and afters.

The biggest compliment you can give a rescue isn’t the size of your donation.

* It’s simply showing up.
* It’s saying, “I’m in. I’ll help a little.”

Because when enough people do that…
lives change. Just ask The Queen, Alma! 👑

Rescue is a fight -
Every. Single. Day.

There is no clocking out;
No calling in sick;
No taking the day off because you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, stressed, or because the donations have slowed to a trickle.

They still need us, so we show up. We fight.
We care for them. We speak for them.
And we keep the promises we made when we said, “You’re safe now.”

You see, asking for help isn’t for us, it’s for THEM.

If these animals didn’t need us, you wouldn’t see us here asking. We ask because they deserve to be seen. Because they don’t have a voice.

They deserve to be cared for; they deserve a village willing to say, “You don’t have to do this alone.”

Ruby’s Purpose doesn’t receive government grants or other public funding keeping our sanctuary going.

Our village is our funding, kind and generous people who see the need.

The truth is, our sanctuary equines used the funds that came with their initial rescue a long time ago, but their care didn’t end when their rescue story did, that’s a true month to month struggle.

The hay still comes;
The farrier still comes;
The vet still comes;
The bills still come;
And we still show up!

There are so many more who need someone to show up for them, too!

There will never be enough rescues, never will be enough funding, the most awful reality.

But together?
We can do more than any one of us could ever do alone.

Maybe you’re seeing Ruby’s Purpose for the first time.
If you are, welcome. Please follow us.
Learn their stories;
Watch them heal.

And if you’re able, become part of the village that keeps them safe.
Sometimes saving a life doesn’t look like one person giving $1,000; Sometimes it looks like 100 people giving $10 or 1000 giving $1.

And sometimes…the smallest gifts, multiplied by a village, become everything!

MAKING SURE THEY DON’T END UP ON THE WRONG TRAILER…

For some horses, an auction is simply a change of hands.

For others, it can be the last stop before a trailer takes them somewhere they may never come back from…that is where we come in.

We step into the chaos, look past the price tag, the condition, the age, the history, and see the LIFE standing in front of us.

The scared horse, overlooked donkey, senior who has more love to give, a horse whose story hasn’t ended yet.

When we say yes, we make a promise:
You are safe now. We will not let you face this alone. We promise they’ll forever be okay, and advocated for.

But Ruby’s Purpose cannot do this without our village.

Every rescue costs more than the moment you see them saved. It’s the feed, hay, farrier care, veterinary care, rehabilitation, patience, and love that follows them home.

Saving the life is only the beginning…
Together, we can keep equines in need from ending up on the wrong trailer, AND give them the chance they were always worthy of!

This is Ruby’s Purpose, and this is why your support matters!
