On Tuesday, 9/15, FRIENDS of the Clifton Public Library hosted a seminar by AARP NJ Speaker Bureau Volunteer Damini Sood. Speaking from personal experience, as well as having been trained by the AARP in scams targeting seniors, Ms. Sood provided numerous examples of how seniors are targeted, how they can protect themselves and their personal information, what to do if they think they’ve been scammed. There was a brief Q&A session after the meeting where many of the attendees shared personal stories about what happened to them. These scams are all over, and if you missed our presentation, we recommend you check out the AARP website and search for “scams.” There’s a lot of information there to help. Watch this space for future AARP seminars.

William Paterson University is presenting a community read program funded by a grant from Freedom 250 and the National Endowment of the Arts Big Read program.

This kickoff event will feature "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros. The excitement starts at the Clifton Public Library this upcoming Tuesday, 9/29, at 7:00 pm.

"The House on Mango Street" is the story of Esperanza Cordero, a twelve-year old Chicano girl growing up in the Hispanic quarter of Chicago. Some free copies of the book will be available. Please join us for this terrific event.

This past summer, FRIENDS of Clifton Public Library were happy and excited to sponsor several events for the children of our community through the Main Library and the Allwood Branch Clifton Library.

One of these events was the Campfire Program. A total of 40 children participated across both branches of our library. This particular event was limited as far as attendance is concerned but there was room for a few more children. Take a look at these pictures and be sure to sign up next summer!

The children decorated rocks, pinecones and branches. They sat around a campfire (don't worry, it wasn't real!) and sang campfire songs! They also listened to campfire stories! It appears a great time was had by all!
