Our trained advocate on Capitol Hill.
Lazarus is beginning his own journey.

His first 30 days focused on evaluation, understanding his limitations, learning his likes and fears, and integrating with our pack.

Today, training began.
Lazarus apparently thought we said “nap time.”

Watch his first day—and follow Wounded Paw Project ®
as we work toward his future mission supporting service members.

LAZARUS — IT TOOK A COMMUNITY 🐾

They shot him in the head and left him to die.

But Lazarus was still standing.

What happened next shows what can happen when people refuse to look away.

Veronica and Lupe rescued Lazarus and gave him safety when he desperately needed it.

Greg stepped forward and paid his veterinary bills, helping give the medical care he needed.

Erin found Wounded Paw Project © and helped connect Lazarus with the next chapter of his journey.

And Nextdoor helped bring a community together around one wounded dog who needed people to care.

Then Wounded Paw Project © got the call.

We drove 3,395 miles to West Texas to bring Lazarus home and continue what this incredible group of people had already started.

Reporter Gabriella Meza and the team at ABC Big 2 News - KMID helped tell Lazarus's story and gave a voice to what this community accomplished. We are grateful for their coverage and for allowing Wounded Paw Project © to share it with you.

But Lazarus's story didn't begin with WPP — and it doesn't end with us.

One Year Ago Today, Daisy Crossed the Rainbow Bridge

Today, Wounded Paw Project® pauses.

One year ago, Daisy “Rainbow” crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

For us, Daisy was never simply a dog. She was a rescue who became a service dog. She became my service dog. And ultimately, she became the reason Wounded Paw Project® exists.

Daisy saved me from myself.

What began with one big brown-eyed dog became a mission dedicated to Helping on Both Ends of the Leash™. Her life changed mine, and because it did, her pawprints have reached people and animals she would never meet.

Today, one of those animals is Lazarus.

Daisy never knew Lazarus. But the organization she inspired was there when his story found its way to us. A dog who survived being shot through the head, nearly four days alone, and injuries that left him blind in one eye and deaf in one ear now has a second chance—and a mission of his own.

That is Daisy's legacy.

It lives in Lazarus.
It lives in every animal given another chance.
It lives in every Veteran or service member who discovers that sometimes the animal at the other end of the leash is the one doing the saving.

So today, we pause—not simply to mourn what we lost, but to recognize what Daisy left behind.

A year later, her work isn't finished.

She is still saving PAWs.
