The Mesa County Community Summit returns for its fourth year on Sept. 28 and 29 at Clifton Community Campus, bringing together people who serve children and families for two days of learning, connection and renewal. This year’s theme is Hope, inviting participants to reflect on what sustains us in demanding work, reconnect with our shared mission and renew our commitment to the children, families and communities we serve.

This free event will feature keynote presentations from Dr. Angela Pharris and Dr. John Gaines. Dr. Pharris will explore the science of hope, including how hope can buffer stress and adversity and how we can build hope in children, families, communities and the professionals who serve them. Dr. Gaines will share how believing in a child can shape their view of themselves, their future and what’s possible, while also leading a workshop on using personal stories to build trust and hope.

Additional sessions will explore topics including:

🧡 Renewing resilience in work with children and families
🧡 Being a foster parent in a kin-first State

Whether you work directly with children and families or support that work in your community, the Mesa County Community Summit offers an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day, learn from others and reconnect with the hope that makes this work matter.

Orchard Mesa Pool will be on the November ballot.

During the August 19 meeting, City Council unanimously approved placing a measure on the November 2026 ballot that will give voters the opportunity to decide on the future of Orchard Mesa Pool, including updates and modernization to the facility itself, and funding for its continued operation.

If approved, the measure would increase the City’s sales and use tax rate from 3.39% to 3.46% to support the pool’s ongoing operation, maintenance, and facility updates. Once full repayment has been met, the rate would decrease by 0.04%.

The ballot measure follows City Council discussions about the costs of maintaining, operating, and updating the facility, as well as feedback from the 2026 Community Satisfaction Survey, which showed support for placing the question before voters.
