Shenendehowa Dollars for Scholars

This all-volunteer community organization provides scholarships for high school seniors.

Dear Seniors:
We are having another open house for Shenendehowa Dollars for Scholars on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026, at the Clifton Park Halfmoon Library. Feel free to drop in anytime. Please bring your Chromebook or laptop. Board members will be on hand to help you with the application process and answer any questions you may have.

Shenendehowa Dollars for Scholars is an organization within the Shen Community. We award approximately 21 scholarships each year to Seniors residing in the Shen District. Any senior can/should apply- but here are some of the eligibility requirements for a few of our scholarships:
Any senior who resides in the Shenendehowa School District
Students pursuing a business or finance degree
Students pursuing a teaching degree
Students who have played a varsity sport, especially wrestling, golf, or bowling
Students pursuing a degree in music, music education, performance, or musical theater
Students pursuing a career in the health professions
Students who have overcome adversity
Students who may need financial assistance.

The New York Long Term Care Brokers LTD. Scholarship was established by Kevin Johnson, President of NYLTCB in 2002. It has been awarded every year to a student who is planning to pursue a degree in business.

Edward Fang has been awarded this scholarship. Edward began attending Cornell University this fall to pursue a major in Marketing, specializing in digital prospecting and data analysis. Edward received several academic recognitions and awards: four times High Honor Roll, two times Shenendehowa Green Award, University at Albany Multicultural High School Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, WISE Financial Literacy Certification, John Hopkins Center for Talented Youth POE Certification, and HubSpot Inbound Marketing Certified. He is also a National Honor Society member as well as a Shenendehowa Mathematics Team member. Edward participated in Shenendehowa Ski Club and CSVC Volleyball.

Matt Proctor was a member of the class of 2009 at Shenendehowa High School. This scholarship was established in his honor to acknowledge those students who share his love of learning and dedication to their education. This young man faced incredible challenges with grace, dignity, and unstoppable optimism, and it is hoped that his scholarship will inspire graduating seniors to appreciate their precious gift of “life.”

Tyler Burrall has been awarded this scholarship. Tyler began attending Florida Southern College where he is studying Sports Management and hopes to work behind the scenes of a major sports team. In addition to Tyler’s exceptional scholastic performance throughout his high school years, he has been a member of Future Business Leaders of America and DECA as well as the National Honor Society and the Social Studies Honor Society. He also played both JV and Varsity Golf and somehow found time to work at both the Ballston Spa Country Club and Panera Bread.

The Karen Field Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Karen Field, a Special Education Aide at Arongen Elementary School. Karen worked at Arongen for three years until she became ill and passed away in July 2011. This scholarship was set up to honor her memory and to acknowledge those students who share her amazing kindness, patience and belief in hard work. A mother of three sons, Karen loved working with children and felt very strongly that all children should have a positive experience in school despite economic disadvantages or difficult family situations. The recipient should share her beliefs and be dedicated, loyal and have a strong sense of fairness and personal responsibility.

Delaney Michels has been awarded this scholarship. Delaney began attending Niagara University this fall. She is pursuing her goal to become an Elementary Teacher, specifically working with children in Special Education. She was also an active volunteer with Special Olympics and involved with the Unified PE and Best Buddies Programs at Shen. Along with her passion for education, Delaney was also a scholar athlete. She was an active member of the Shen Varsity Swim team and is excited to continue her passion as a college athlete. She learned at a young age that all children learn in different ways. She has embraced that philosophy while implementing it into her future teaching career.
