It is with great sadness that SMART Local 83 announces the passing of our Brother, Denny Burns, on August 22, 2026.
We extend our deepest condolences to Denny’s family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. His loss is felt throughout our Local 83 family, and we ask that you keep his loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Brother Denny. You will be greatly missed

Great pictures of one of SMART Local 83’s newest signatory contractors, **RMB Heating & Cooling**, during a recent visit from **New York State Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara**, who had the opportunity to tour their shop!

It’s great to see our newest signatory contractor receiving recognition and having the opportunity to showcase their operation, their skilled workforce, and the quality work they provide throughout our area.

It’s impressive to see this kind of work being done locally — combining manufacturing, skilled trades and construction to support projects across our region. I got an up-close look at their fabrication operation, where skilled workers produce custom sheet metal and piping for commercial and industrial projects 🔧

Today we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who work hard every day to provide for their families, support their communities, and set an example of dedication, strength, and integrity.

Thank you for everything you do. We wish all Local 83 fathers and their families a safe, happy, and well-deserved Father's Day!

Please join us in congratulating Ethan Anatriello and Brett Bowe on achieving Journeyman status and being officially sworn in at tonight's Local 83 monthly union meeting by Regional Manager Rob Monahan and JATC Coordinator Steve Savoca .

Completing an apprenticeship is a significant accomplishment that takes years of hard work, dedication, classroom instruction, and on-the-job training. Ethan and Brett have demonstrated the commitment and perseverance needed to earn this milestone and join the ranks of our skilled Journeymen.

We are proud of their achievements and look forward to their continued success as members of Sheet Metal Workers Local 83. Congratulations, Ethan and Brett, on a job well done and best wishes for a long, successful career in the trade!

Local 83 is deeply saddened by the passing of Richard Austin on May 21, 2026.

Richard dedicated more than 50 years of his career to the sheet metal industry through Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 83 in Albany. Throughout his long and distinguished career, he worked at numerous locations, including Ford Motor Company and the Plattsburgh missile sites. His commitment to his craft, his union, and his fellow members left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Richard's family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. His memory will remain in our hearts, and he will be greatly missed.
