Amherst Glebe Arts Response (AGAR)
Amherst Glebe Arts Response, Inc. was founded as a Virginia Not-for-Profit Corporation in March 2006. The Internal Revenue Service has determined that AGAR is a tax exempt organization under section 501 (c)(3) of the Code. AGAR's mission is to bring, commission and develop or present programs in professional arts, humanities, design, historic architecture, arts f
or young people, arts education, and arts in healthcare to residents of Amherst County, Virginia, and others around the world. AGAR has often produced and presented arts and humanities programs and exhibitions in collaboration with other community venues from the Amherst County Museum, Library and Public Schools to the Monacan Ancestral Museum, the Legacy Museum for African-American History, Centra Health's Fairmont Crossing Rehabilitation Center and the University of Virginia Health System's Surgery Waiting Room. AGAR produces and presents performances and workshops of music, theater, and dance, presents poetry, historical readings, and lectures, facilitates exhibits of visual art and film, and conducts Amherst County oral history projects. AGAR as a major presenter for the heritage celebration of the 250th Anniversary of Amherst County. AGAR has been funded by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust. AGAR was a major presenter for the heritage celebration of the 250th Anniversary of Amherst County and the 100th Anniversary events for the Town of Amherst, Virginia. AGAR projects are currently funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and Arts Midwest for THE BIG READ: Emily Dickinson in Amherst, Virginia; by Virginia Commission for the Arts for the Amherst Music and Chamber Music Series; and by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust for First Person Accounts of Twentieth Century Amherst County Schools.
