Working together to build healthy environments where young children in Cuyahoga County live, learn, sleep, and play.

Early Ages Healthy Stages is a partnership between early care and education providers, community organizations, health care, social service agencies, businesses and families that works collaboratively to make the healthy choice the easy choice for young children and their families. Our Plan focuses on four health domains:

Healthy Foods
Physical Activity
and Family Wellness

They always say “ it takes a village,” and your ECE community is a part of that village. Building connections between families and providers can create a space where lived safe sleep experiences are shared and struggles are validated. Simply opening small everyday conversations, such as "What does your baby sleeping look like?” or other questions centered around safe sleep, can spark those important conversations. So, let’s take that step and move closer to building a village today!

We’re working together to create a safe, supportive space where ECE providers and families can openly share the real challenges of safe sleep. Every parent's experience matters and their voice helps us learn, grow, and support children better. As a provider, you can serve as the important connecting piece; you can help normalize the conversation. Together, we can build safer sleep practices through trust and shared understanding.

A child’s self-esteem affects many areas of their life, including their relationship with their parents, and how well they do at school and with friends. Positive self-esteem helps kids:

· Make good decisions under pressure.
· Interact with others.
· Make healthier choices.

All babies should be sleeping in a crib, but that doesn’t always mean that’s where they fall asleep. Should you notice a baby has drifted off in a car seat, swing, or other sitting device, promptly move them to a flat and firm safe sleep environment. Leaving a baby in an inclined position can cause their heads to fall forward, which can lead to airway blockage or suffocation. Be sure to remind caregivers of this safe sleep tip next time they travel back home with their infant.
