Real Cleveland Flag In an effort to preserve Cleveland's rich history, the descendants of Susan Hepburn founded the “Real” Cleveland Flag initiative.

The mission of this project is to safeguard and celebrate the city's cultural heritage and history.

When you look at the beautiful flag of Puerto Rico, also known as the Monoestrellada, you might not realize the rich history it shares and how closely it resembles our Cleveland flag. Both feature red, white, and blue, symbolizing patriotism, our stunning waters, and peace. Interestingly, both flags were designed and adopted in 1895, just months apart Cleveland on October 21, 1895, and Puerto Rico on December 22, 1895.

Cleveland’s Boricua community is one of resilience, progress, and prosperity. As Héctor Collazo, the artist behind the "78 Pueblos, Una Bandera" campaign, proudly stated when we gifted him a flag; ¡Progreso y Prosperidad!

We are honored to stand alongside the city’s new Hispanic Liaison, Emily LeBron, and Councilwoman Jasmin Santana. Together, we presented Collazo with a proclamation recognizing our city and a flag to celebrate the greatness of Cleveland. We also want to thank everyone involved your dedication made this beautiful mural possible. From the volunteers to the incredible planning committee, great job!
