Dear Mr. President Donald J. Trump
We write to you with deep concern regarding the grave human rights violations currently unfolding in Nepal. Under the leadership of Prime Minister K.P. Oli, state forces have used excessive and lethal force against peaceful demonstrators, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives.
On September 8, 2025, at least 21 students, including children in their school uniforms, were killed by police during peaceful protests against widespread corruption. These were not rioters or armed rebels; they were young people exercising their right to speak out against injustice. The deliberate targeting of civilians, particularly students, represents an appalling abuse of state power and a direct violation of international human rights norms.
Adding to this crisis, the Nepali government has taken steps to silence the population by banning social media platforms without proper regulation or transparency. This action is not intended to protect citizens, but rather to suppress the flow of information and prevent the truth about these atrocities from reaching the outside world.
The people of Nepal are crying out for justice, accountability, and freedom. Their voices are being silenced at home, which is why international support and attention are urgently needed. We strongly urge the United States to:
Condemn these human rights violations in the strongest possible terms.
Pressure the Government of Nepal to immediately halt the use of deadly force against peaceful protesters and restore fundamental freedoms.
Engage with international human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the United Nations Human Rights Council, to investigate and document these atrocities.
Support global media coverage by encouraging outlets such as BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, and Reuters to amplify the stories of the victims and the demands of the Nepali people.
The United States has long stood as a beacon of democracy and human rights. Your leadership at this critical moment could help save lives, bring justice to the victims, and ensure that the government of Nepal is held accountable for its actions.
The world cannot turn a blind eye to massacres of innocent students and the silencing of entire populations. We appeal to you, Mr. President, to take immediate action and stand with the people of Nepal in their struggle for justice, dignity, and freedom.
Respectfully,
BICC Team
