Stan Crane and Northeast Georgia SORBA is organizing a cleanup of downed trees at Unicoi State Park mountain bike trails. We have sawyers, but need some volunteers to assist in “swamping”, or helping clear debris as it is cut. The first work day is set for Thursday June 04. Meeting in Helen at 10:30am at Unicoi Hill parking lot and walking the Helen to Unicoi trail in to where it crosses the mountain bike trail. I know it is last minute, but is anyone available to help? If so, let me know and I can get you contact information and more details. Thanks.

We want to thank the dedicated team of 8 volunteers who came out to mitigate damage and downed trees from the trails from recent storms. While we were able to clean up the downed trees, the trails are still extremely wet and suffering from freeze/thaw conditions currently. They are remaining closed through the weekend at least to give them time to recover. Thank you for your understanding, and please do not use wet trails, as this creates lots of work to repair for your trail stewards.

Trail users please note that Yonah Preserve Trails are closed until we can assess the damage from Winter Storm Fern and develop a plan to get them cleaned up and safe to use again. Please be patient as our area got hit quite hard with ice and have had major amounts of trees down across our region. I will post updates and as we develop a plan to clear the system, will post about any volunteer opportunities that may arise. Please do not attempt to access the trails until we have officially given the all clear. Thank you.

Exciting news! I’m happy to share that the White County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved our request to seek funding in our attempt to bring more trails to White County! Now the hard part of seeking grants to fund it begins! Stay tuned for ways you can help us with this process, but be sure and thank your commissioners for their support in our project.

(Cleveland)- The very popular biking and walking trails at Yonah Preserve, north of Cleveland, could see some additional areas for people to enjoy.
