Brother Student Minister Emeritus Roland Muhammad has distinguished himself in the Greater Cleveland community as a businessman, community activist and spiritual leader.
He is the owner of the Shabazz Bakery, a distribution company for his signature baked goods. He is the CEO and founder of Superior Renaissance Community Development Corporation, reviving pride in the Black heritage of Superior Ave. by implementing its restoration starting at 105th to 125th Superior Ave. He was also president of Brothers Investment Group 6 Inc. (B.I.G. 6), working to develop business plans to support the needs of the Greater Lakes Chamber of Commerce.
Previously Brother SME Muhammad was the founder and manager of Blue Seas Fish House and Bakery, a Cleveland neighborhood restaurant that was in business for over 18 years â employing many within this time frame. During this time he served as treasurer of Ward 5 Community Congress and President of the Longwood Merchants Association. In 1996, he founded Security 19, Inc. an electronic security company targeting residential and commercial customers. In 2007, he was appointed by the late Cleveland Councilwoman Fannie M. Lewis to serve on the Ward 7 Consortium for Economic and Community Development (CECD) Board of Directors.
He joined the Nation of Islam in 1970. He became a minister of the NOI in 1981 and was responsible for rebuilding Muhammadâs Mosque #18 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1991, he organized the NOIâs âNew World Orderâ tour, with 10,000 guests. It was one of the largest event gatherings in Clevelandâs history at the Convention Center. Over the last 25 years, literally thousands have attended his lectures. He has lectured at many prisons, colleges and universities as well as neighborhood, city and state forums. He is also known for his work with inner city gangs, political advocacy and economic and community development.
Brother SME Muhammad is very well known in the community for his diligent work, dedication and personal sacrifice to the upliftment of the human family. Heâs served on the Mayorâs Cleveland Community Relations Board ever since former Mayor Frank Jackson was elected back in 2006.
His accomplishments, work in the community and dedicated citizenship, has earned him proclamations from former City of Cleveland Mayor, Mike R. White, Cleveland City Council and the Cleveland Municipal Court. In 2010, he was given the âKey to the Cityâ by Former Mayor Frank Jackson.
Brother SME Muhammad considers himself a Clevelander, having been a resident of Greater Cleveland since 1967. He is a native of Darlington, South Carolina and served in the United States Air Force. He and his wife Jacqueline have a blended family of 4 adult children and several grandchildren.
