Keep your cats inside!

Unpopular opinion. House cats are the most destructive invasive species in the world. In the United States alone, free-ranging and feral cats kill an estimated 2.4 billion birds every year, along with 6 to 12 billion small mammals like mice, voles, and other rodents. That isn’t normal predation pressure. That’s an overwhelming, nonstop impact on wildlife populations.

Cats are not native predators in most of the environments they live in, and their numbers are propped up by people feeding and sheltering them. That keeps populations high year-round, even when prey declines. The result is constant pressure on ground-nesting birds, songbirds, and small game across both rural and urban areas.
