*IN SEARCH OF A NEW HOME*
Bodhi was adopted by a wonderful family through a local rescue about 5.5 years ago. Her family loves her, but their situation has changed and now Bodhi is in desperate need for a new place to land. We are looking for a temporary or permanent home for Bodhi ASAP. Bodhi needs a home without other dogs or small children. She is approximately 6 years old, spayed, and up to date on her vetting.

Here is what her mom had to say about Bodhi:
"We fell in love with Bodhi the minute we met her, from her oversized tongue to her cute playful deer-like bunny hops. She quickly adapted well once we got her home, which was amazing considering she had spent most of her life outside. She became a member of our family. She loves car rides, walks, and playing with her special toy. She thrives in an environment without kids or other dogs. She has a lot of love and companionship to give the right person. Our new environment has become too stressful for her. Giving her up is very painful, however we love her so much and recognize that our home isn't what is best for her."

***Badges for Bullies will cover anything Bodhi needs when making her transition to a new home (food, vetting, medication)
Please share this post if you can, in an effort to find Bodhi the perfect place for her to call home.
****Please email [email protected] for more information about Bodhi.

UPDATE: Owner located, cat and owner have been reunited.

FOUND: This male cat was stuck in a tree for three days around where MLK and Fairhill meet. Badges for Bullies President, Sean Smith, hired a tree climber to help get him down. During his rescue, he suffered a badly broken leg. Badges for Bullies is covering all medical costs. He is having surgery on his leg today and we would like him to have a home to recover in. He is very friendly and sweet. He is microchipped; however, it isn't registered. We would like to reunite him with his owner. Please help us find him/her by sharing this post. Email [email protected] if you have any information. Thank you!

This November we will not be holding our annual fundraiser, Rovemberfest. Instead, we will be spending time further structuring and defining our efforts to help our local canine companions. Thank you for your ongoing support; it makes the work we do possible. We look forward to sharing with you our goals for 2019!

We were contacted by a family who needed medical assistance for their puppy, Kaden. He was lethargic and not eating for a few days. His mom did the right thing and tried to find financial assistance so he could be seen by the vet. Badges agreed to help. Unfortunately, we learned that poor baby Kaden had the parvovirus. After several days of hospitalization and care, Kaden lost his fight. His family's heart was broken. When we told his mom the heartbreaking news, she told us all about Kaden, how he was amazing with his kids, how he was smart and learned tricks easily, and how much he loved his four-legged sister, Penny. She said he will be deeply missed. ❤️

The best way to prevent your dog from getting the parvovirus is by getting him/her vaccinated. Unfortunately, Kaden's mom was unaware of this information and he had not been vaccinated. Now that she knows, she will be getting Kaden's sister, Penny, vaccinated and spayed. Knowledge is power. You don't know what you don't know. Most people want to do the right thing; they just need the information and education to do it. Please help us share Kaden's story, in an effort to raise awareness of the importance of vaccinating our pets. There are a few low-cost options for wellness care in Cleveland. Badges for Bullies President, Sean Smith, came to the rescue of this poor pup, who reportedly had been beaten with bricks and sticks by neighborhood kids on Cleveland's east side. Badges for Bullies provided immediate medical care to stabilize Indy. He was later taken into the care of the Cleveland APL, who has provided Indy with extensive medical treatment to ensure a full recovery. They recently shared that Indy has been adopted by one his doctors at Dancing Paws! What an inspiring story of resilience and healing, and not to mention, what happens when a village of people come together to save a life. ❤️

The people responsible for abusing Indy have still not been found. If you have any information, please contact the APL Cruelty Hotline at 216-377-1630.

We’re excited to update everyone on Indiana Bones’ progress, the pup who was found after being hit by a car and then beaten with bricks and sticks. We also want to thank everyone who donated to our Second Chance program to help Indy. Those donations not only made it possible to care for Indy’s every need, but also for many other animals at the APL who have needed veterinary care. It’s because of your support that we can give this happy update!

Back in April, we learned from the specialist who was performing Indiana Bones’ surgery that he would require a surgery on each hip and one on a back knee. He had the first two surgeries with Dr. Vogt at the Akron Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center, and then was sent to a long-term foster care situation where he could receive frequent and extensive rehabilitation. As part of his post-operative care, he has been receiving holistic treatment including chiropractic care, massage, and water therapy at Dancing Paws Animal Wellness Center in Richfield. Indy enjoys his therapy; he even fell asleep at his first visit! He also made a lasting impression on Dr. Neal Sivula, who owns the practice.

We are happy to report Dr. Sivula and his wife Stephanie, who is their practice manager and a R.V.T., fell in love with Indy, and will be adopting him after he has had his final surgery with Dr. Vogt in July. Currently, he goes to work with them every day and loves it … along with their other animals and everyone he meets. Of course, while he’s “at work,” he has also been receiving ongoing, topnotch care and rehabilitation and is making remarkable progress. As Dr. Sivula put it, “Indy will have a lifetime membership to the gym!”

Now, this is what we call a happily ever after!!!

We are often contacted by people looking for resources on pet friendly/breed neutral rentals in our area. Unfortunately we don't always have much information to provide. Pet friendly and breed neutral rentals are hard to come by everywhere. The advocacy group Bad Rap shared this information on creating a pet resume. It's not something we have thought to recommend previously but we wanted to share the idea. While it may not guarantee you will find the rental you are looking for, it will present you as a considerate, responsible pet owner and maybe give you an edge when trying to find the right home for you and your pet.

This is curious: Landlords we survey tell us that very few dog owners supply 'pet resumés' when they apply for pet friendly rentals. With housing so limited, what are your thoughts on why so many people skip this helpful practice?

Thanks for letting us pick your brain!

Five years ago today, thanks to several brave and dedicated Cleveland Police Officers, 27 dogs were saved from a dog fighting ring on the east side of Cleveland. These special dogs would bring an entire community together; meaning so much to so many. Today, we celebrate and are grateful for those involved in their rescue; and remember each and every dog who changed our lives. We send love to the parents of the 27, who are no longer with us, as well as those who never got the chance to find their forever home. The inception of Badges for Bullies was because of these dogs. Parents of the 27, please send us your stories, pictures, and memories to commemorate this very meaningful day!

Today we marked the end of an era with Mr. Goddard's final forecast. Dick Goddard has been a tireless advocate for animals over the course of his 50+ year career. He was there when we at Badges for Bullies began and has worked tirelessly to make a difference for the "4-foots". We wish him all the best in his retirement and look forward to his continued advocacy through his work with the Dick Goddard Foundation.
