Big Pal Little Pal

Big Pal Little Pal Big Pal Little Pal is a mentoring program that pairs students from Lee University with children at the local Boys and Girl's Clubs

Purpose:
• To provide a solid Christian model for children that will demonstrate the love and tenderness
of Jesus Christ.
• To demonstrate consistent and faithful adult relationships to children who need them.
• To encourage children in devotion and commitment to Jesus Christ.
• To model safety and Christian accountability within the guidelines of the program.

BPLP Meeting Notes Monday, January 28, 2013

• 1st Event: Pump it Up!
Sunday, February 3
- Meet at Tucker at 1:00 PM. We will take a bus to Chattanooga.
- We will be back at 5 PM.
- Fliers/Permission slips are in the binders at your units. ONLY give your LP one if you are planning on going. Contact your LP’s parents for confirmation! Your little pal MUST have one signed to go, and everyone MUST wear socks!
- Snack will be provided
- Please email your officer if you and your Little Pal are planning to come

• Small Group Partnering Event: Thursday February 7th in Conn Center starting at 9:30 PM. There will be a special simulation and then time of worship afterwards.

• February 13: Valentine’s crafts project at your unit to make with your LP! Look for more details in an email.

• Next meeting: February 25, we will meet in small rooms.

• Put the Spiritual Retreat on your calendars! March 15-16!

• We will have t-shirts at the event on Sunday and at the next meeting.

3rd Event – Roller Skating!
Cleveland Skate Place (2100 Candies Lane Northwest)
Sunday, November 18, 12-2 PM
Transportation for Big Pals…please find other Big Pals to carpool and each driver will get $5 for gas.
Invitations for Little Pals in the binders at the units, please give one to your Little Pal as soon as possible if you are planning on coming. Parents need to drop them off and pick them up.
There will be lunch provided.

Remember your LP during these last busy weeks and during finals! Don’t desert them!

Last day for hours: Thursday, November 30. Any hours after this will be counted towards the spring.

Discussion/Hours Signing Meeting: December 3rd
• Rose Lecture Hall
• 7:00-7:30 – get your paper signed. you will have to write a paper (2 pages per 10 hours).
• 7:30-8:30 – Oral Reflection: get your hours with no paper! But you have to talk. :)
• Everyone is required to come (even if you don’t need hours signed) to get your last meeting credit and fill out a survey.
• There will be yummy food!
• Best Big Pal award will be given out!

REGARDING THE SERVICE HOUR DEADLINE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TURN IN BPLP HOURS BY NOVEMEBER 1st! Big Pal Little Pal has permission to turn in our hours immediately after our 5th Meeting (which is December 3rd). To get your hours, you must have at least 10 and you will either need to write a 2 page paper (per 10 hours) and bring it to the meeting or stay for the reflection on that night. If you have any questions, please ask!

Spiritual Retreat Sleepover
• Friday - Saturday, October 26-27. Please find some other Big Pals to carpool and meet at your unit at 5:00 PM on Friday afternoon.
• The theme is Superheroes!
• We will be staying at Cornerstone Family Church next to White Wing Bookstore on Keith Street. You will drive over from your unit after your Little Pal gets on the bus.
• Pack a sleeping bag and pillow. As a reminder, do NOT share your hairbrush with your Little Pal!
• You will get to give your Little Pal a gift (a Bible or something else). You might want to start thinking about the note you will write to them on the inside cover!
• Your Little Pal cannot come without you, so don’t invite them if you are not planning on coming.
• There is a SEPARATE permission slip for this event with all the information that the parents need to know. Permission slips are in the binders at your unit. YOUR LITTLE PAL MUST HAVE A SIGNED PERMISSION SLIP TO COME. Parents can leave the slips in the binders. (If you need a Spanish permission slip, we can email one to you!)
• Try to text or call your Little Pal’s parents if at all possible.
• There will be special activities for your pre-teen and teenage Little Pals. Please email your officer and let them know if you have a pr***en or teenage Little Pal coming!
• If you’re free and your Little Pal can’t come, we need your help with the games or craft or lesson! Please email Kathryn at [email protected] and let her know you want to help!
• Rules for the event: We are depending on you to help us keep order and be the authority. Your Little Pal must stay with you at all times. They may NOT touch the equipment!!!
• Little Pals will leave Saturday at 9:30 AM but you will need to stay and help clean up. We will be done by 10:30 AM on Saturday.

Fourth Members Meeting is November 5th at 8:00 in the same room your group met in tonight.

Third event DATE HAS MOVED to Sunday, the 18th of November. We are planning on going roller skating!

New officer positions are opening up! If you are interested in applying for the Treasurer Assistant or Events Assistant positions, we will be happy to send you an application and more information! Interviews will be held after our 4th meeting.

Signing in: Sign in once and continue to sign in next to your name until you get to Day 5. Then, go to another sheet and do the same. Tucker: sign in next to your typed name (if your name is not there, add it to the end). Continue to sign in until Day 5 next to your name, then go to another sheet or the back.

If you are having trouble getting a ride to see your Little Pal, you need to talk to your officer and they will help you get there. Tucker people, feel free walk over with us! We meet at corner of Bradley County Library by Dixon parking lot and behind Davis/Sharp and walk to Tucker Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4PM.

T-shirts are in! Aren’t they awesome? If you missed the meeting but have paid your dues, email your officer about getting your t-shirt. If you still need to pay dues, you can pay and get your t-shirt at the fourth meeting!
