Golden Retrievers In Need (G.R.I.N.)

Golden Retrievers In Need (G.R.I.N.) A 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing Golden Retrievers in OH & PA. The GRIN Board of Trustees is a working Board.

Each year continues to bring challenges but the GRIN family continues to be there to provide the love and care needed to each dog that has come to us. We have seen more goldens than ever who have been displaced for economic reasons and have taken in goldens for many reasons including owners who can no longer care for their goldens as well as from shelters with goldens who have been abandoned or st

rays. Many of these goldens require extensive medical treatment due to serious wounds, injuries or health issues. We are so grateful to the members and volunteers who work so hard to keep the GRIN mission before the public, and who give so generously to care for our goldens. We appreciate the partnerships we share with some of the finest medical resources in our area, and their willingness to take on the many and varied needs of our dogs. In addition to needs for medical care, we have taken in many dogs with behavioral issues recently. This is not unique to GRIN – rescues across the country are experiencing a similar trend. We are fortunate to be able to work with professional behaviorists and trainers to bring these great dogs to their full potential and adoptability. They oversee all the operations of GRIN on a day-to-day basis, as well as maintain the vision of GRIN’s present and future. GRIN is continually seeking to improve in all areas, and some of the focus in the past and coming years include: Sponsorship Program, Membership Education, Communications with the public and our members through various medium including videos of our goldens, Training and Behavior, and improving our processes for adoption and post adoption follow up. GRIN is proud of the work we do each year, both in caring for our GRIN dogs and in maintaining a top-quality, efficient rescue organization!! We encourage you to join and become part of a wonderful rescue organization.

HELP US MAKE THIS YEAR’S GRIN GALA THE BEST ONE YET!

GRIN’s biggest night of the year is coming soon — and we’re currently seeking sponsors to help make this unforgettable evening possible!

Our annual Gala brings together golden lovers, supporters, adopters, volunteers, and community partners for a fun-filled evening benefiting the dogs of GRIN. From life-saving medical care to transportation, foster support, and rehabilitation, every sponsorship directly helps us continue saying “yes” to goldens in need.

Sponsoring the Gala is also a wonderful opportunity to showcase your business or honor a beloved pet while supporting a cause that means so much to our community. Sponsorship packages include a variety of recognition opportunities, event perks, and visibility before and during the event. General admission tickets won’t go on sale until August, but you can secure tickets now through our Admiral, Captain, and First Mate sponsorship levels.

Whether you’re a local business owner, a longtime GRIN supporter, or simply someone who believes every golden deserves a second chance, we would love your support.

Foster Update - Sophie (26060)

Sophie will be entering her fifth and final household once she is ready for adoption and to meet her forever family. Sophie was transferred from owner to owner, and at the end of April, she found GRIN as her anxiety was overwhelming to her family with smaller children and other pets. Sophie finds comfort in human affection and attention, cuddling up next to her foster mom, following her around, and seeking lots of interaction. She also seems to enjoy the company of the resident dogs. While she has the energy of a pup and is four years old, she knows how to settle down when it is time. Sophie enjoys all the sniffs, outdoor animal smells, and seeking what’s on the counters. She has conquered her fear of the crate and readily goes into it when needed. Leash walking is a work in progress, as not only is she strong, but she also has a determined mind full of curiosity.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting, head to our website, grinrescue.org, to complete an application. GRIN services select counties in Northeast Ohio, Central Ohio, and Western Pennsylvania.

Foster Update - Rusty ( #26033)

Sweet, three-year-old Rusty is settling into his foster home and slowly learning to feel safe. He came to GRIN after living as a breeding dog in a barn with very little social interaction. Rusty is trying hard to be brave and loves playing with the resident dogs in the fenced yard. He is learning to walk on a leash, though passing cars still frighten him. He remains skittish and startles easily at sudden movements or loud sounds. Inside the house, he usually stays on his bed but is beginning to explore other rooms. He loves giving kisses and enjoys pets from his foster family.

Rusty will do best in a home with a confident dog companion and a fenced yard. For now, he is finding more courage every day and once he feels completely confident, he will be a loving companion in a new home.

Five-year-old Bella (26071) is coming from a nearby rescue, having been relinquished by her breeder after only having one pup in each of her last two litters. Bella is said to be a big, goofy sweetheart.

At the vet, Bella was spayed and had two hernias repaired, one umbilical and the other on the body wall. Bella has a mild ear infection. When she gets her vaccines boosted, she will have her liver value rechecked, as one was slightly lower, but of no major concern.
