Every day of our Little Artists Studio summer camp last week was filled with fun as kids ages 4-8 let their creativity soar!

Instructor Maribeth Weeks drew on nature for inspiration as she taught the young artists to create dandelions, using watercolors and bubble wrap printmaking to depict the flowers. She also introduced the artists to leaf rubbing, where kids got to collect their own leaves and create imprints of them between sheets of paper.

The second half of the week focused on more advanced art skills. Maribeth maintained the nature theme and taught the young artists to use simple shapes to create beautiful birds and dragonflies. The kids also got to practice using negative space by taping off their initials and painting over them to create initial paintings.

Last week, young artists ages 9-12 branched into the world of multimedia art in our Creative Lab: Mixed Media Masters summer camp!

Instructor Maribeth Weekes began by blending the arts of watercolor and printmaking, showing the young artists how to use watercolors to create a sunset background and black paint to print a city skyline on top. She also taught the kids the basics of color theory by using assorted paints in primary colors to create a background for their self-portraits.

The second half of the week was focused on perspective. Maribeth taught the young artists to use circular and angular perspectives to create more urban scenes, and the kids got to take home drawings of a bird’s eye view of the city and a wall with their own name graffitied on.

We’ve been having a wonderful time working with all the young artists of Cleveland at ! The past few weeks, we’ve painted string art, created initial drawings with oil pastels, and colored some fun printouts.
