Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided With Naloxone) is a public health initiative aimed at preventing opioid overdose deaths through the distribution of naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. The program provides free naloxone kits and training on how to use them to individuals at risk of opioid overdose, their families, and other community members.

Project DAWN is part of Ohio’s broader efforts to combat the opioid crisis, offering critical resources and education to reduce fatalities and promote awareness about the dangers of opioid misuse.

We have kits readily available here at the ATGC. For more information scan the qr code to be directed to our website dedicated with information on how to distribute naloxone.

🌍 International Overdose Awareness Day: Together, We Can Make a Difference 🌍

Today, we stand united on International Overdose Awareness Day—a day dedicated to remembering those we’ve lost, supporting those in recovery, and raising awareness to prevent future tragedies.

💔 Remembering Loved Ones:
Every overdose statistic represents a life cut short, a family forever changed, and a community in mourning. Whether it’s a friend, a family member, or someone in our community, the pain of loss is deep and enduring. Let’s take a moment to honor their memories and recognize that their stories deserve to be heard and remembered.

🧠 Reflecting on the Impact:
Overdose doesn’t just impact the individual—it touches everyone around them. It’s a reminder of the importance of empathy, education, and action. We must challenge the stigma surrounding addiction and understand that it’s a complex health issue, not a moral failing. By reflecting on our own attitudes and behaviors, we can help create a more supportive environment for those struggling with substance use.

💪 Taking Action:
There are many ways we can all contribute to preventing overdose and supporting those affected:

Educate yourself and others about overdose prevention and harm reduction strategies, such as the use of naloxone.
Support local organizations that provide critical services, from mental health support to addiction recovery programs.
Advocate for policy changes that address the root causes of addiction, such as poverty, trauma, and lack of access to healthcare.
Reach out to someone you know who may be struggling. A kind word, a listening ear, or a simple check-in can make a world of difference.
💜 You’re Not Alone:
If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, please know that help is available. Reach out to local resources, support groups, or trusted individuals who can provide the assistance you need. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness—it’s a powerful step towards healing and recovery.

Join Us in the Fight to End Overdose:
On this day and every day, let’s work together to save lives, support one another, and build a future where overdose is no longer a threat. We all have a role to play, and together, we can make a difference.

Happy Juneteenth! Did you know these things about this day?

Historical Origin: Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger announced the end of slavery in Galveston, Texas, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863.

Texas Roots: Texas was the first state to officially recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday in 1980.

Federal Holiday: On June 17, 2021, Juneteenth was officially designated a federal holiday in the United States, known as Juneteenth National Independence Day.

Educational Significance: Many events focus on educating people about African American history and culture, including lectures, exhibitions, and museum tours.

Symbolic Foods: Traditional Juneteenth foods include barbecue, red foods, and drinks, symbolizing resilience and joy. Red velvet cake, strawberry soda, and watermelon are popular.

Global Recognition: While Juneteenth is primarily an American holiday, its significance has been recognized globally, with celebrations and acknowledgments occurring in various countries.

Modern Relevance: Juneteenth continues to be a day for addressing issues of racial inequality, commemorating the past while advocating for ongoing social justice efforts.

Today, we stand together to celebrate love, acceptance, and the rich diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOTB) is a powerful reminder that everyone deserves to live their truth without fear of discrimination or violence.

Let's honor the courage of those who have fought for their rights, amplify the voices of those still struggling, and commit to creating a world where everyone can be their authentic selves. Love is love, and everyone deserves respect, dignity, and equality.

Together, we can make a difference. 🌈❤️ +
