Cars were broken into at two Cleveland Metropolitan School District schools Friday. It’s the latest incident in a trend that has been ongoing for months.

🏘️ Safe, well-maintained housing is an important part of a healthy neighborhood.

Signal Cleveland reports that a study by ACORN and the Vacant and Abandoned Properties Action Council found that 79% of an investment firm’s 153 Cleveland homes appeared vacant. The study also documented disrepair and concerns about tenant maintenance.

City officials reported issuing 101 code violation notices, 191 civil tickets, and bringing 19 Housing Court cases against the company. The firm says it was affected by fraud involving the seller and is working to transfer homes to buyers who can restore them.

At the Partnership for a Safer Cleveland, we believe housing conditions belong in the community safety conversation. Protecting residents and strengthening neighborhoods requires listening to tenants, addressing neglected properties, and coordinating across community partners.

📊 Encouraging progress in community safety, with important work still ahead.

The Council on Criminal Justice’s latest report found that nine of 13 categories of reported crime declined in the cities studied during the first half of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.

The reported homicide rate fell 18% across 30 cities, representing 215 fewer lives lost. However, reported domestic violence and sexual assault increased in the cities providing those data.

These findings offer a broader perspective, while each community’s local conditions and residents’ experiences deserve attention.

Signal Ohio reports that requests for mail ballots were down 26% compared with the same point before Ohio’s 2022 midterm election. Meanwhile, first-day early voting in person increased in all 56 counties with available data, including Cuyahoga County.

The shift does not necessarily mean fewer people will vote, but it is a reminder to plan ahead and stay informed.

🏠 Connecting more Cleveland neighbors to housing

Cleveland’s A Home for Every Neighbor program is expanding its outreach after helping more than 225 people, mostly living in encampments, secure housing.

According to Signal Cleveland, the program is now working to reach people sleeping in cars, doorways, bus shelters, and abandoned properties. Partnerships with A Place 4 Me and the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland help connect young adults experiencing homelessness to assistance.

Take a few simple steps to charge safely:

✅ Charge on a hard, flat surface, away from bedding and other materials that can burn.
✅ Unplug your device when it is fully charged.
✅ Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and avoid extreme temperatures.
