The Cleveland Vegan Society has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Cleveland VegFest due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The health and safety of our community is our greatest priority at this time. We must act in the best interest and well-being of all organizers, volunteers, vendors, presenters, exhibitors, members, and attendees.

Thank you for your support, patience, and understanding. We look forward to a bright, vegan, post-pandemic world!

Jen, Leigh, Sunny, Donna,Amy, Cori, Colleen, and the rest of Philip Wollen's Cleveland friends here. Passing along a greeting from him, per his request. He still looks upon us with fondness and memories of his time here in Cleveland, which he dubbed Vegan Camelot. I never had the heart to correct him on that, at least the Camelot part. He thinks it never snows here, and July and August and never too hot! In short there's simply not...a more congenial spot...
Yup.
No matter the ending of the song.

"Hey buddy,

You don't expect Sir Richard Burton to sing.

But when you sing about Cleveland, everyone sounds brilliant!!!

Be good.

Please pass on my message to Jen and all my friends in Cleveland!

Philip"

This is a must read article. PLEASE read. When I first started pursuing a plant based diet I was doing it strictly based on my health and the health of my patients. The science was eye opening, unexpected, and compelling. After all, I never heard a single word about plant based diets in medical school.

It was 2007 at the time, and being plant based in Texas was almost impossible. Being healthy is certainly a motive, but adapting a plant based diet for the sole reason of living longer just didn’t motivate me enough.

Then, curled up with my dog, I read a book that opened my eyes. Simply entitled “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Saffron Foer. In the book, the author was a new father, like I was, and was asking important questions. What should he teach his child about what to eat? What diet is best for his child’s health and for the environment the child will inherit?

He detailed what I knew deep down, but didn’t want to admit, about the abhorrent treatment of animals in factory farms. He threw a spotlight on the hypocrisy of me laying there petting my dog while equally sentient animals were being subjected to tortures that would put a person in jail if they did it to a pet.

In this NYT’s opinion piece he ties together research and ethics and draws the obvious conclusion that factory farms are a threat to our survival. PLEASE READ: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/05/21/opinion/coronavirus-meat-vegetarianism.amp.html

Climate change and the coronavirus both have roots in our food choices. It's time to eat like we care.

“Just as we are practicing social distancing to “flatten the curve” and save lives, we need to eliminate meat and dairy from our diets to help stop the climate crisis. The environmental community especially needs to start taking this seriously. Both institutional and individual change is critical, but individual change has the added advantage that it doesn’t depend on convincing politicians to support our cause.”. ~ Sarina Farb
