Sewing Fundamentals II: Stretch Fabrics, Garment Fitting & Advanced Construction

Ready to take your sewing skills to the next level?

Building on the foundations of Sewing Fundamentals I, this six-class series explores working with stretch fabrics, operating a serger, sewing knit garments, garment fitting, pattern adjustments, and advanced construction techniques.

From sewing a classic T-shirt to experimenting with unconventional materials, we’ll build new skills, refine our craftsmanship, and expand what’s possible at the sewing machine.

✨ Designed for Sewing Fundamentals I graduates or anyone with equivalent sewing experience.

You asked, and we’re listening! 👂

We’ve had several community members reach out asking about alternative days and times for Sewing Fundamentals II, so we’re exploring the possibility of offering another class series!

If you’ve been wanting to take your sewing skills to the next level but our current schedule doesn’t work for you, we want your input!

We’re considering:

🧵 Fridays | 6–9 PM

🪡 Saturdays | 10 AM–1 PM

✂️ Sundays | 4–7 PM

Sewing Fundamentals II builds on the skills learned in Fundamentals I, introducing stretch fabrics, sergers, garment construction, fitting techniques, and more!

SEWING FUNDAMENTALS II

You’ve been asking for the next step—and we are here for it! 🙌❤️🧵🪡✨

Sewing Fundamentals II is a six-class series designed to help you keep building your skills and confidence at the sewing machine.

Learn to work with stretch fabrics, use a home serger and explore more advanced garment construction and fitting techniques. Along the way, you’ll make a classic T-shirt and transform reclaimed banner material into a one-of-a-kind track jacket while practicing professional seam finishes, pattern adjustments and creative approaches to unconventional materials.

This series is designed for graduates of Sewing Fundamentals I and sewists who are comfortable using a sewing machine and commercial patterns.

Learn how a home serger trims, stitches and finishes a seam in one efficient step. We’ll walk through the machine’s essential parts and settings, practice threading and learn how to troubleshoot some of the most common serger challenges.

Learn how to identify different types of knits, understand stretch and recovery and select the right needles, thread and machine settings for your project. We’ll be practicing working with these materials by cutting a tee shirt to sew for the next class!

GARMENT CONSTRUCTION I: T-SHIRTS

Put your knit-sewing knowledge into practice by constructing one of the most useful wardrobe staples: the classic T-shirt.

In this hands-on garment construction class, you’ll learn how a T-shirt comes together from pattern pieces to finished garment. We’ll focus on controlling stretch, creating smooth seams and achieving a clean, professional neckline.

You’ll practice:

• Preparing and cutting a knit garment pattern
• Understanding stretch direction and grain
• Stabilizing shoulder seams
• Constructing the front, back and sleeves
• Setting sleeves into a knit garment
• Sewing side seams
• Applying a neckband evenly
• Finishing knit hems
• Evaluating fit and making basic adjustments
