A little art, a little dance, and a whole lot of fun! 💃🏽🎨

Last week we were at the Near West Theatre Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration! We enjoyed a performance by our Latin Social Dance groups, connected with the Gordon Square community, and also got to watch our Latin Social Dance parents and teacher, Bianca Chis, dance some Bachata with dance instructor Lali!

It’s always so special to get out into the community, meet new people, and celebrate Latino culture together.

Thank you to Near West Theatre for inviting us to be part of your Celebration and for creating space for our community to come together!

La semana pasada estuvimos en la Celebración del Mes de la Herencia Hispana de Near West Theatre. Disfrutamos de una presentación de nuestros grupos de Baile Social Latino, conectamos con la comunidad de Gordon Square y también tuvimos la oportunidad de ver a nuestros padres y a nuestra maestra de Baile Social Latino, Bianca Chis, bailar un poco de Bachata con la instructora de baile Lali.

Siempre es muy especial salir a la comunidad, conocer gente nueva y celebrar juntos nuestra cultura latina.

🩰We’re still looking for students to fill our Intermediate Ballet class with North Pointe Ballet!

The Intermediate class is open to students ages 9–11, but 8-year-olds with previous ballet experience are also welcome to register. Students will continue building their ballet technique, coordination, flexibility, confidence, and creativity in a fun and supportive environment. Our Beginner Ballet class is officially full - Students are still welcome to sign up for the waitlist in case a spot opens up.

DAYS: Saturdays, September 12 – November 21
No class: October 31
November 21: Final session will include with a Parent Observation Day/End of year party
TIME: Intermediate (ages 9–11): 10:00 – 11:00 AM

Give your child the opportunity to learn guitar in a fun and supportive environment. Students will build foundational skills, learn proper technique, and develop their confidence while discovering the joy of playing guitar.🎸

This is a free youth class with instruments provided. No previous experience is required for Beginners, while Intermediate is recommended for students with previous experience.

Open to ages 10-15 & taking place every Tuesday and Thursday.

This year, we’ve made the difficult decision not to hold our annual ¡Celebrando! event. With so many wonderful Hispanic Heritage Month events happening throughout Cleveland, we’ve chosen to celebrate in a different way—by supporting community events, local artists, and opportunities to connect throughout the month.

Here are just a few ways to celebrate with us:

✨ Near West Theatre’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
✨ Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History
🎨 Entre Dos Mundos // Between Two Worlds at FAVA through September 27
🎶 Ballet, Guitar, Cuatro, Latin Percussion & Latin Social Dance at the Center, with new classes coming this September!

We’re also proud to support 78 Pueblos y 1 Bandera CLE, helping bring a monumental Puerto Rican flag mural to Cleveland and creating space for art, connection, and cultural pride.

Support the work behind the celebration! Our Annual Fundraising Campaign runs September 14–October 14, helping us continue providing free arts, cultural, and community programming throughout the year.

Este año, hemos tomado la difícil decisión de no llevar a cabo nuestro evento anual ¡Celebrando!. Con tantos eventos maravillosos del Mes de la Herencia Hispana ocurriendo en todo Cleveland, hemos decidido conmemorar de una manera diferente: apoyando eventos comunitarios, artistas locales y oportunidades para conectar durante todo el mes.

Be sure to catch our Latin Social Dance students as they walk in the One World Day parade and perform traditional dances that showcase the vibrant rhythms, traditions, and cultural heritage of Latin America!💃🏽🕺🏽

Priscilla Florin is a non-binary, first-generation Puerto Rican, French, and Belgian artist exploring ideas of identity, history, and art itself. As the founder of .studios and a Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center | Unidos por el Arte Artist, Priscilla’s work combines technical skill with the influence of their heritage.

Dont miss it! This special solo exhibition runs August 15th through the 31st.

OUTREACH RECAP! ✨

The past few weeks have been full of community, creativity, and connection! We’ve loved getting out into the community and sharing a little bit of Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center with our neighbors.

From Community Life Collaborative to Salsa Across Borders, No Surf Fest, National Night Out, and Esperanza’s Back to School Celebration, we brought arts and crafts, activities, and plenty of opportunities to get creative.
It was so nice to meet new faces, connect with our community, and tell more people about what we do.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, created with us, and welcomed us into your events!

We’ll see you out in the community again soon! 💛

Our Doors to Mi Barrio exhibit back at the center after its stay at Community Life Collaborative and we definitely missed them while they were away.

These colorful doors celebrate the beauty, culture, and stories of our Latin American countries, and we’re excited to have them back in our space where our community can enjoy them once again.
