Friends of the Locust Fork River Non profit organization, founded in 1991.

FLFR's mission is to preserve the free-flowing & natural wonder of the Locust Fork River and its tributaries by educating the community, promoting recreation, watchdogging polluters, and advocating for the River.

📣 Submissions are open for the second annual Paddling Kids Story Contest! 🥳

We're on a mission to get the next generation outside and on the water. Whether it’s a first-time canoe trip or a kayak adventure they’ll never forget, we’re looking for real stories from young paddlers who made the most of summer. Paddlers ages 3-17 can submit a written story or audio recording along with their favorite photos.

Friends of the Locust Fork River and Blount County Tourism invite you and your family to an exciting program featuring Raptors from the Alabama 4-H Center and Turtles from the Locust Fork River watershed.
~ In the birds-of-prey experience, you will see live raptor ambassadors. You will hear their stories and learn how you can protect them. You can even have your photo taken along side them.
~ See turtles from the Locust Fork, shy amphibians that live among us, though they like to stay out of sight. Seamus O’Brien will round them up the night before and will tell you all about how they manage to thrive.
Also, don’t miss these attractions in the breezeway!
~ Native species plants, ready to put in the ground, are available for sale benefitting the Restoration Nursery, where they are grown.
~ Learn about Happy Trails of the Locust Fork and its EcoRovers that allow everyone the chance to explore nature trails through enhanced mobility.
~ Check out FLFR merch—teeshirts, caps and more!
